Reader question: Student with an education visa
Dear readers,
I have a visa question. I am a student in Bangkok 3/8 to 22/12) with an education visa. My visa is now valid until 3/11. Now I'm going to China 24/10 for 5 days and in November for 5 days to Cambodia. When is the best time to renew? And how does it work with re-entries?
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Nancy
every time you leave the country you hand in your departure card. And when you arrive again, you fill in an arrival card and you will receive 30 days. In your case that should be enough 29-10 to 27-11 and then on 23-11 or a few days later but before 28 -11 to cambodia. when you come back from cambodia you will get another 30 days, so until 22-12. It takes a while to calculate and figure it out, but then you do not have to apply for re-entry and you save 2.000 baht
When you leave for China 24/10 for 5 days and come back by plane, you get a 30-day visa exemption, when you go to Cambodia in November and come back by plane, you get another 30 days, but when you travel back via a land border, you do not get 30 but 15 days, you could possibly obtain a visa in Cambodia.
How is it possible that people still continue to provide the wrong information that is already almost a year out of date regarding the 30-day visa exemption upon entry by air and 15-day visa exemption by land. Conimex please provide correct information and not incorrect information. It is 30 days for fishing exemption both by air and by land.
I thought I had read 26 times on Thailandblog that nowadays 30 days VISAexemption is also given per country, albeit with a maximum of a few times a year. A pair is at least two, so no problem in this case, but maybe I'm behind again…
When are we going to stop giving wrong information. When arriving by land, you now also get 30 days. Those 15 days are a thing of the past. The only restriction is that you can only make 2 overland entries per year.
Overland, people now also get 30 days only twice a year.
If you have an education visa you ALWAYS have to get/buy a re-entry before you leave the country. If you don't, your visa will expire automatically. You can of course enter Thailand on a tourist visa (as previous writers indicate) but you are NOT allowed to study anymore.
In your case, TWICE a re-enrty of 1.000 Baht per piece.
I am a lecturer at a university and that is how it is with our foreign students who sometimes leave Thailand.
Her visa expires on November 3 so re-entry is not applicable. But… her question is when is the best time to extend her visa in this case at least before November 2 and then she can apply for a re-entry better to buy a multy re-entry as she will leave the country several times.
Is that right?
I know that under certain conditions you can get an Education visa if you study in Thailand.
But is the reverse also true? If you enter with another visa or visa exemption, that you MAY not study? To be honest, I would find that a bit strange.
I would like to say a big thank you to Lung Addie, RonnyLatPhrao and Jasper for their comments on my question a few days ago.
Because I don't know any other option and definitely don't consider it normal, I want to let them know this way. Thanks again.
Alex
If, as suggested in the first responses, you leave the country without re-entry, your study visa will no longer be valid.
I assume that this is not an issue for the stay itself, but I don't know if there are other implications. (For example, consider insurance that may be necessary, is it still valid? Or, will you receive a certificate, which is only issued if you have a study visa?)
I think a re-entry is 1000THB and you would need it 2x: apply now, an extension when you return and then another re-entry.
Due to the extension for 3/11 you will not benefit from a multiple re-entry.
Dear conimex, you will receive a 30-day visa on arrival upon entry both by land and by air, the number of entries per country is limited to 2 per year if you do not have a valid visa.
Thank you! But I do have to extend my education visa for 3/11 and that is for 3 months?
So I'm lagging behind, so you see, good that there are other observant readers, but as you see TIT everything can change from day to day, coming back to your question: in your case, would I now renew and at the same time a re- taking entry, saves you another trip to the immigration service.
plan so:
before departure to China: buy re-entry permit (before 24/10). PLEASE NOTE: many holidays on which Immigration is closed: October 23. So you have to go on October 19 or 20
China: October 24-29
after returning to Bangkok: apply for an extension of the education visa (before 3/11)
before leaving for Cambodia: buy a re-entry again.
