Home » Reader question » Reader question: What's up with the rooftop bar Cloud 47 in Bangkok?
Dear readers,
Does anyone know anything more about rooftop bar Cloud 47 in Bangkok? I have been visiting this rooftop bar regularly for the past two years. It is near Patpong night market. It is a trendy rooftop bar, with great views and very democratic prices for food and drinks, in stark contrast to other rooftop bars.
Now last month (April 2017) I wanted to go back to Cloud 47 with friends and hung an ordinary piece of paper on the front door (written A 4 tje) with the dry message: “Temporarily closed and moved”. The guard of the parking garage could not give me any more explanation.
Does anyone know what the current situation is with Cloud 47? Because I find this pretty weird to say the least. However, when you go to the website nothing is mentioned. Please info if anyone knows anything as this was one of my favorite places in Bangkok.
If anyone has a tip about another affordable rooftop, you can always let me know.
Regards,
Eric (BE)
Cloud 47 has been permanently closed as of March 31, and despite assurances from the Thai Owner, no alternative has yet been opened. Indeed a bit “crazy” that the owner only mentioned the closing of the bar on his Facebook page………
The rooftop bar Cloud 47 has been closed since the end of March, the lease contract has not been extended by the owner of the bar, the catering facility with a magnificent view of the Bangkok skyline, will be an office building.

Hi Eric,
After a bit of googling, it turns out that Cloud 47 was closed on March 31, 2017, when the lease expired.
The space will be redesigned as an “office space”.
There is no message about a continuation at an alternative location – the question has been put out on various forums, but no one has yet answered it.
There are plenty of alternatives, but all pieces more expensive and often with a "dress code".
You'll have to live with it I'm afraid,

Roelof
you probably already mentioned the rescues yourself…
“It is a trendy rooftop bar, with a great view and very democratic prices for food and drinks, in stark contrast to other rooftop bars.”
This is in overpriced Bangkok is hard to sustain…especially if it is a “trendy location”.
Sorry guys,
But if you take a cup of coffee in Venice on St. Mark's Square, you also pay € 12, - so a cocktail at an A-1 location in Bangkok for € 10, - is seriously underpaid!
If we were willing to spend a little more, that sky bar would still be there!
Unfortunately, but one day we will learn!!
Peer
Very bad comparison Peer about that cocktail price or does that Thai bartender also earn 1500 Euros per month in Thailand?
Try the Octave Rooftop Bar on the rooftop (47 high) of the Marriott Hotel on the corner of Sukhumvit Soi 57, right next to Thonglor BTS Station. Slightly away from the center but beautiful views and much cheaper than, for example, the Lebua Sky Bar or the Banyan Tree. Cocktails from around 300 baht. Little dress code too. Bar and restaurant are spread over 3 floors, with the cocktail bar at the very top.
