Dear readers,

Recently I was in Bangkok and noticed that the red Express line of the Airport Rail link is no longer in use. That was the case a while back. The result is a crowded blue City Line that stops at every station.

Does anyone know the cause of this? Will the Express line ever run again?

    No, in the past .. the cost of about 145 baht was the reason for many to take the regular line ..
    Indeed, overcrowded because local people also use that line as a commuter…

    But if you are sitting with suitcases during morning/evening rush hour it is very uncomfortable

      Another example of the total lack of “thinking ahead” also called planning. Action will only be taken when the problems actually arise. Preventive maintenance is also a term that people may have heard of, but really don't know what it means. And then they are planning to build an HSL! Dangerous project and money thrown away in advance. If that HSL ever comes, I will certainly never use it. Prefer the plane. There are also (preventive) maintenance problems there, but fortunately other countries are forcing such maintenance to be carried out. After all, no preventive maintenance and compliance with internationally accepted maintenance rules for aircraft and the permit to fly abroad will be cancelled.

      see my earlier response, ironic in nature. Is it the nature of some people to get worked up about an extra 10 minutes or so in travel time because of the Express Line failure? My advice if you don't have to be somewhere at a certain time: take off your watch and don't look at the time on your mobile, but enjoy the view in the Airport Link and marvel and observe your fellow travelers.

    One way airport to Payathai station costs 45 baht and takes about 30 minutes. If you have just been on the plane from Amsterdam to Bangkok for 12 hours and have lost an hour queuing at passport control and baggage claim, you obviously do not want an extra travel time of about 10 minutes due to a few extra stops. Certainly not if you fly to Bangkok once a year.
    If it is too crowded during rush hour, you can always take a comfortable taxi, but then you will be at a standstill in rush hour with extra costs. By the way, more than 12 million people live in Bangkok, so it is busy everywhere.

      With the 'blue boomeltje' it is I think 5 to 6 stops to Mamasan station. I think that is quite doable outside the pits. All in all, it is not tram line 9 in Amsterdam or The Hague. It just depends on what you choose and what your travel time is. I usually have an early afternoon landing and have had no bad experiences so far. At rush hour it's a different story. But then you do have your own seat with you in the form of your suitcase. A good upright suitcase makes traveling by public transport easy in my experience. Alternatively, take a taxi or book a transfer. If you want to be fast, you can book a fast service. They pick you up at the trunk with a beep-beep cart. Quickly complete the paperwork at a VIP stamp post and then continue to a luxury taxi, possibly with police escort, to your hotel in Bangkok. The latter, of course, costs some money.
