Reader question: Installing PVC gutters, good or not?
Dear readers,
This year we want to place gutters around the house and also make a connection there to a few blue UV-resistant barrels outside. I myself want to have PVC gutters installed that can withstand the temperature. Residence is 70 km from Korat.
Does anyone have experience with this?
With kind regards,
Jeans
I had PVC gutters in the Netherlands and they started leaking after 5-10 years on the connections between the parts. A repair (by the plumber) in the case of the worst leaks had hardly any effect. That's why sw ovc gutters were replaced by zinc gutters long ago. Haven't had any problems since then. So I would never use PVC gutters. Moreover, a zinc gutter can easily be repaired locally, unlike a PVC gutter. I think the melting temperature of zinc is really high enough for the temperatures in Thailand.
zinc also seems better to me now that I read the comments. thank you in advance
We ourselves have plastic gutters from the Windsor brand, so far they still look good. We did most of it with the more expensive type ESLON (brown). Behind the house on the roof of the shed, the cheaper type DELUXE (white), we collect the rainwater in a 1000 liter tank. If you take a look at this website http://www.homesolutioncenter.co.th and enter ESLON or DELUXE at search product, you will get an overview. I just relied on information from the hardware store and what I found on the internet about the quality. In any case, it is a lot nicer than the blue PVC pipes sawn lengthwise, which are also used as a gutter. Without gutters we couldn't sit on our covered terrace when it rained, now there is a heavy shower with strong wind (Samui) and I am typing this dry on the terrace.
We will also do collection, but zinc gutters are apparently better because the temperatures in khong are rather high. In the interior, they use exactly more zinc.
Two houses in the area with Thai residents have also chosen Windsor gutters, I had asked them why they hadn't opted for zinc gutters. They told me that the quality of these is very poor and that they do not last very long. If you look at these gutters you will see that they are usually mottled, so they are galvanized. And that will cause the bad quality. So in any case, make sure you get zinc gutters and not galvanized ones. The choice of galvanized and not plastic gutters will also have to do with the price.
Hello, PVC gutters dry out after years and start leaking ... I now have sinks and have them painted in the color of the roof tiles, because I don't think it's a sight unpainted. There are also stainless steel gutters, but I find them useless.
Thanks now I'm going to look at the prices of zinc gutters
We installed ESLON gutters 4 years ago, after 2 years all couplings started to leak despite the fact that a special (very expensive) line was used for this.
In some places there are now gaps of more than 2 mm. between the couplings, it seems as if those gutters are shrinking …
Fortunately they are not hanging too high so that I can carry out repairs myself, I would certainly not recommend plastic gutters.
Near here (Ban Phaeng) someone installed the white variant 4 years ago, which have all been replaced by metal gutters.
Thanks now I'm going to look at the prices of zinc gutters
Go for the regular zinc gutter, very cheap and last about 15 years, repair almost for nx and also replace.
also easy to give a color as desired.
Have galvanized gutters around my house, am not satisfied with them over time, because of the sun, shrinking / expanding, with vttt considerable bangs, and eventually, of course, seams that will leak.
In the Netherlands I was used to laying gutters in a wooden box, which in my opinion is better for the gutter.
Around the shed/scullery, behind the house, I tried plastic gutters (unbranded) but they all showed wild waves within a year, nothing either.
I have not placed gutters around the house. Where I want to sit I have extended the roof by 7 meters.
So I'm dry. And the rest just let the rain fall.
