Reader question: Price reduction for Thai at Thai Airways?
Dear readers,
Is it true that people with a Thai nationality and their partner/children can get a reduction from Thai Airways if they contact Thai Airways personally to buy a ticket?
If you follow the prices of the plane tickets between the Netherlands / Belgium and Thailand, you quickly come to the conclusion that Thai Airways is one of the more expensive companies. They practically never emerge as the cheapest alternative. Usually they have a slightly higher price, for example 680 euros where many other airlines fly you to your destination for 500 to 550 euros, but often the sky is the limit and you see prices for economy class of 1000 euros at Thai Airways depending on the period and what time do you book.
Of course interesting for people who want to fly directly. But you wonder how those planes get filled? Still by Thai and their partner / children who get a reduction?
We all know that the two pricing system exists for the Thai and Farang in Thailand, but is this also a form of it or is it an urban legend?
What are your experiences?
Regards,
Eight
This question was already asked in 2014.
See https://www.thailandblog.nl/lezersvraag/krijgen-thai-korting-thai-airways/
I have also used it several times.
According to the travel agency, this has been abolished since last year, but maybe you should call Thai Airways and ask the question. Then you're sure.

May take a while to get an answer.
Now that I read this one more reason for me to boycott Thai Airways.
So no more Thai Airways.
Not nice. Have you ever had an advantage in your life that others could not have?
I don't notice that Thai airways is one of the more expensive ones, I fly back from Brussels to Bangkok and then on to Krabi for 530 euros. I think that's a good price. If I only find as far as Bangkok with another airline, then I have to book another ticket to Krabi and it will therefore be more expensive. Will also be a bit more in the high season, but that is for every company
Hi Sandra,
I am very curious in which period the airline tickets are so cheap
And with which company can they be booked?
Thanks in advance for the information.
did you buy your ticket in Belgium Sandra? I fly to Belgium on March 27, 2018 to April 12, 2018 for the price of 37000 bath.
Was the cheapest of the 4 travel agencies I had visited.
there was apparently no discount, because my Thai wife had paid for it.
Dear Mario,
Reason why your plane ticket is so expensive;
This is because you will be flying back during the Thai New Year period (Songkran).
If you fly, for example, 8/5 departs and 31/5/18 return, this costs 554 euros with Thai airways.
Always check when you leave and return date, so not during holidays or holidays, almost all my Belgian customers only fly with Thai.
Tip: Book your flight ticket +/- 8 weeks before your departure date.
Book through Thai's website http://www.thaiairways.com
Most expensive period is July to mid-August and around New Year period.
I hope this helped you.
Regards,
Harry
yes but have no choice but to go on these dates. but now that you mention it i would have flown back better after sonkran parties. i had lost track.
anyway thanks for the tip.
kind regards
Dear Sandra,
Those are indeed just about the prices of Thai Airways' offers direct from Brussels.
If you stay outside the “Blackout dates” ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackout_date ) of Thai Airways can fly on that route, and you stay for a maximum of 30 days (sometimes even 3 months), there are usually bargains to be had of around 500-550 Euro. I have also seen them around 480 Euro, but you really have to react quickly and be lucky that you can book them.
If you stay longer than 3 months, then it is usually, as I said before, between 600-630 Euro, but even there you can sometimes find them even lower with a bit of luck.
It is therefore important to stay outside that “blackout date” (if you can, of course).
For the Brussels-Bangkok route, this is approximately between December 10-January 10 and June 10-August 10 for the airlines (not just Thai Airways). This may vary slightly of course.
Of course, this does not mean that there are never offers or bargains to be had during those “blackout dates”. Normally you keep an eye on early booking or early booking promotions from companies or travel agencies, and then hope that those places are still available when you book them...
It is also best to register via the website of Thai Airways for the newsletter, and then you will receive an email 2-3 times a year with the offers and conditions.
I am usually never able to enjoy the offers myself, as they involve maximum stays of 30 days (sometimes 3 months). But I also saw a 6-month offer two years ago. Unfortunately, the latter was a one-off, but I was still able to book it for 540 Euro.
Keep an eye on. Offers also have conditions. Depends on the offer of course, but includes maximum stay, flying within a certain period, paying immediately, more expensive if you want to change the date, no or half air miles, etc...
It is indeed correct. Both Thai and Eva Air have special rates for people with Thai nationality. Call us indeed, Eva Air Amsterdam +31-20-5759166, Richard Fredoline, email: [email protected]. Good luck.
Still exists.
You must be married to a Thai, and proof of this must be provided.
Bookable at Joker in Belgium.
Broadly speaking advantages:
– about -100 euros per ticket
– the ticket is open for one year
– 30 kg of luggage per person
– sometimes connecting flights in Thailand for free.
At Thai Airways this is known as an ethnic ticket.
If you already have a promotional rate, your Thai partner will not receive a reduction. Booked last year at the end of June for departure on January 12, 2018 to March 23, 2018. Paid at connections 528 euros taxes included. Requested a reduction for my Thai wife, but this was already a promotion, so no reduction. I think you can only book 11 months in advance, but you can of course ask Thai Airways for this. Long in advance every day or even twice a day, look at the prices at Thai airways or travel agencies such as connections and then possibly book via the internet or immediately visit an agency. It also depends on the period when you want to go. The plane on the outward journey on 12 January was 90% full.
There is still an “ethnic” ticket. Just confirmed by Nadia from thai Belgium. Price now in ethnic 768 Euro and normal 838 Euro. She told me that promotional tickets can sometimes be cheaper, but where a serious price tag is attached when one wants to change the dates, even promotional tickets are often only valid for 1 month. An ethnic ticket is a ticket that remains valid for 1 year from the date of departure. Data can be changed unlimited times per year for FREE. It is also valid for the partner but they MUST leave on the same date but not necessarily return on the same date.
So still exists. Must have been a misunderstanding then.
Booked online this month with Thai Airways for my next period (about 6 months in Thailand and about 1 month in Belgium each time).
625 Euros for the period June/December.
For my current November/May period I paid 615 Euro.
I wouldn't make a problem of it at all.
There are many other airlines with which you can fly to Bangkok .
And now even to Chiangmai with Qatar .
If they want to be expensive , then just ignore it , that 's how I feel about it .
Jan Beute.
My reaction to answers from Dirk and Rene:
Connecting flights for free?
Promotion at Thai Airways this month, I don't have prices with me...
I believe BRU-BKK about 605€; BRU-KKC about 735€.
KKC = Khon Kaen
Connecting flight is therefore not free. Yes, during certain periods (I don't know by heart).
I am trying to book for December 2018 – January 2019.
But searches on Thai Airways website fail as I want to book further than 11 months ahead. Departure date (early December) is within the period of the promo of the month… Return around January 20, 2019… I'm afraid I won't be able to use this promo and the following promos will be more expensive…
So Rene's claim seems to be correct. The price, on the other hand… when I wanted to book for December 2017-January 2018, the price at Thai Airways was about 300€ higher…
If I remember correctly, the ethnic rate only applies if you book at least 6 months in advance. Missed that at the time because the departure date was within 6 months from the date of booking..
No Daniel, you can book an ethnic ticket at any time, but the longer you wait, the higher your booking class will be! And therefore more expensive
daniel booked last week departure 1dec return 19 jan 638 with connection
We also used to go on an ethnic ticket, which was increasingly expensive, for example a three-month ticket, which is interesting if you want to stay longer and the return journey is lateral, which of course also has its advantages.
But my Thai wife paid the same amount as me.
Last year to BKK & back for 460 euros with Thai airways in October, bought during sweepstakes announced on thailandblog.nl, so certainly not expensive for a direct flight.
which period is the cheapest: Brussels-Bangkok and back, between 5 to 6 months with Thai airways
