Dear readers,

A question about quarantine. If you test positive on your return journey, do you have to go to a special hotel? How does that work and how long do you have to quarantine?

Regards,

Petra

I asked at “my” test location (Pattaya, corner of Klang-Third Road) what would happen if I unexpectedly tested positive.
Answer: “nothing, you go home yourself for home quarantine.”
They do not report anything to the authorities and therefore leave the responsibility with you.
Of course this is no guarantee that this will work everywhere….

Could very well. That return trip test is not a Thai requirement, but a Dutch one, for example. So a bit of "their" (Netherlands) problem, especially if you leave Thailand.

In the Netherlands, Covid is a "notifiable" disease. It is therefore mandatory to report to the authorities (via the GGD) if a test location finds that a customer is "positive". I don't know if this is also the case in Thailand.

Depends where you test. There are commercial clinics in Pattaya that just want to make money from testing. If you test positive there they say good luck and here is the bill. If you are going to test at a hospital it will be different I think, they will prepare a bed for you 😉

Well isn't it! Tested positive here and was not allowed to leave. Asymptomatic, so I had to go into a home quarantine. However, because I don't have a house, it became a hotel. Only when I tested negative and had paid more than 2000 euros was I allowed to leave the country. And in fact, that so-called "covid-19 insurance" only covered if you were really in the hospital with complaints. The costs of the hotel - for the home quarantine - are therefore never not covered if you are insured after Feb 15 and I was also advised to go to a clinic where the insurance would be accepted and to receive treatment until then. refusing, easier said than done if you can't leave your hotel room. Finally allowed to leave the country after 2 weeks and travel back to my children, but to this day this is outrageous!

By the way, I should also add that I was only “released” when I paid the costs (55000 THB) of the quarantine myself. This was in Bangkok, by the way.

Have read that PCR test will be abolished from March 23 for travelers flying to the Netherlands.

We had ourselves tested at the airport on March 10 before flying back to the Netherlands with KLM. 550 THB per person.
Think everyone there is tested negative even if you have COVID.
The test stick didn't go more than half an inch up your nose for half a second.
I think they don't care if you leave the country with Corona.

That's right, that is also the case with the commercial test labs. It seems pretty much impossible to test positive given the way it happens.
