Reader question: Why do people in Thailand put a plastic bottle with water near the wheels of a parked car?
Dear readers,
I have seen cars parked several times in Thailand and on the wheels there was a plastic bottle with water and I wonder what the purpose of that is…?
Probably for the sun, but readers may know what the intention is..?
Thanks!
With kind regards,
Ronny
According to my wife, no dog or cat will urinate against your tire. She doesn't know whether it really works and/or why.
Learned something again!
Bottles with water are also often placed along the fence around the house, this is to prevent the dogs from urinating against the wheels in this case …….
Emiel, Lha's Place Chiang Mai
The sparkle of the water in the bottle keeps the dogs away from urinating.
True and it also works if your dog has a tendency to jump over the fence. I put bottles of water on the walls around my house to prevent my dog from getting an unwanted pregnancy. And that helps!
Sometimes you can also see a row of water bottles in front of a fence or the front door of an office building. This is to prevent the stray dogs from sleeping there all day. There's a stray dog around here that always goes to sleep in front of the entrance to 7Eleven. And he hates to get up so you really have to step over him.
Should you go to the seveneleven store next time and carefully spray some hairspray in his direction? He never comes there again to lie in the way. I often walk around in the evenings. When a dog approaches me aggressively and sometimes even If you show biting tendencies, a little pressure on my spray can of hairspray is enough to see it disappear quickly. It is possible and it is therefore recommended.
This story is therefore not correct. And it is once again a true Thai assumption that is still flawed. A male dog will not stop urinating on it when it sniffs the scent of a bitch in heat, bottle or no bottle. He is more likely to pee on the bottle than go around it. And if someone says I prevented my dog from becoming pregnant, that is really impossible.
They will crawl through the smallest hole in the fence if a bitch in heat is kept behind a wall somewhere. Even putting on pants does not guarantee that one will not try. It would be better to buy a pill so that your bitch dog will no longer go into heat. These are available at any good vet. Then you won't have to worry about excited males wanting to jump on your dog.
The best solution would be to spray your car tire or fence with a strong-smelling agent. Ammonia is something all dogs hate and cats do too.
But then again, cats will urinate over ammonia (and, incidentally, also over bleach)!
Hello happy Jan.
If you live in Tjailand and you can tell me where I can buy amoniac. i am eternally grateful to you.
Submitted this as a reader question for Gringo, but not important enough I guess.
Need this for multiple purposes.
And yes.
A bitch in heat, then there is little to stop the dog.
We once thought to use a closed door in the staircase as a solution, because we had to leave.
Not.
Bottom door completely scratched away, so door to the buttons.
The door really disappeared down to the glass.
A bitch with an embarrassing expression on her face and the dog was oblivious to anything.
Next day gave the vet a good move towards holiday destination and back home.
LOUISE
Dear Louise,
By chance I read your urgent appeal to find out where you can buy amoniac.
Well, a few years ago I was also looking for this product, namely to mix it with water and use it to degrease heavily soiled windows.
I searched and questioned me to death, was virtually impossible to find in the whole of Bangkok.
But through the mediation of friends at the university I was able to purchase it anyway.
I still have 2 full new bottles of it, if you are interested you can take them over from me. They are 2 brown glass bottles of 0.5L if I remember correctly. I then paid 180THB for it per bottle. You can reach me at [email protected]
Hoping you are now eternally grateful to me… haha.
Of course this is an excellent remedy, environmentally friendly, animal friendly and largely effective.
This obviously does not help for females in heat and males in heat!
I think that a small intervention, sterilization, would solve the problem of many a dog owner who does not want puppies, better than the use of ammonia and other malodorous products that can affect both the environment and the sense of smell of the animals. Have you ever inhaled ammonia yourself?
A one-time cost.
Which is also a very good remedy, regularly clean your sidewalk, car and the like!
As a result, not only dog urine, but also human concern for their environment has been removed.
Greetings
Didit.
Placing bottled water for this purpose is not limited to Thailand. In Malta, where I lived for years, it is also customary to do this. A few bottles in front of the facade of a house or indeed near the tires of a parked car. I have also seen filled bottles and filled plastic bags hanging at food stands with the intention of keeping flies and other insects at a distance.
The thinking is indeed the mirroring effect and because it is "convex" the magnifying effect, so that the animal sees an enlarged version of itself, is frightened and takes off (or wings).
I've never researched scientifically whether it actually works, but simple patient observation should provide an answer.
What does that story of the unstoppable pursuit of a dog in heat remind me of?
In Brazil, many houses have the meter box for electricity outside the house, on which a bottle of water is placed to make the meter run slower, I don't know whether it works!?
If that would help to lower my electricity bill, I would build a scaffolding around it and fill it with bottles of water HaHa
