Home » Reader question » Reader question: Does PayPal work the same in Thailand as in the Netherlands?
Dear readers,
Does PayPal work the same in Thailand as in the Netherlands? By that I mean open a PayPal account and then add a Thai bank account.
Will your bank account be debited automatically when you purchase a product or do I have to deposit money into the PayPal account?
Regards,
Jan
Yep.. 100% the same
It works fine, you just get robbed several times by Paypal, with their rate rules.
You pay in Euros and they immediately convert it into Dollars.
You then want to transfer to your Thai Bank (Thai bank does not charge any costs) But Paypal now settles again to Thai Baht and calculates exchange costs again.
It would be fair if you could update this yourself on their site, but that is not possible.
Yes, PayPal can be used in Thailand in the same way as in the Netherlands. Open an account, link a bank account (and/or credit card) and you can use it to pay and receive money. Also useful for transferring money from the Netherlands via PayPal (eg converting euro > baht).
Transferring from Thai PayPal account to a bank account takes almost a week.
Gerrit, then you are doing something wrong, I have Paypal nl and Paypal th, do as Frank writes, Thai account does not even need a credit card, Paypal will send a test debit of 1 bath or something, then approve, and you can just pay from your Thai bank account, immediately receive a text message that it has been debited. (Do create a separate Thailand Phaypal account)
Unfortunately, it no longer works that way, Paypal now also charges costs for a transfer from another country. These costs are in addition to exchange costs, and amount to approximately 5%. From the Paypal website “International payments:
There is a fee when you receive a payment from someone in another country. Please note that exchange rate fees also apply if there is a currency conversion.”.
I just use Pay Pal through a European bank. Doesn't seem convenient to me via a Thai account. I can choose whether I pay in Baht or in Euros
I had a Belgian paypall account that I used here in Thailand about 4 times without any problems
have been able to use. This was linked to a Belgian account.
Until one day, suddenly I couldn't use it anymore. Safety!!!
Using a Belgian Paypall account in Thailand?? Didn't go anymore!
Called, emailed did everything possible to convince Paypall that everything was fine.
But because the security checks are automated, I was able to open the Belgian account
don't use it anymore. I couldn't even log in!!! In addition, Paypall is so good
was helping me by sending emails to my Paypall account.
Since they made sure that I could no longer log in, I could no longer read these emails!!!!
Finally called and was told to open a new Thai Paypall account.
Did I do. Thai bank account linked. 2 small amounts were deposited by Paypall.
Entered these amounts to activate Thai Paypall. Result?? Denied !!!
Don't have Paypall anymore….
I mainly used this to make purchases on the internet.
Now I do my internet purchases through Lazada. Fast, convenient and safe… and you pay at home upon delivery!!
Goodbye Paypal…!!!
Just had the same experience, also used Paypall for online purchases
When I order online in China and pay with my Thai Paipal, 1. the price is displayed in THai bath.
2 I never pay more than the stated price.
