Home » Reader question » Reader question: Is it normal for a passport to be copied when changing money?
Dear readers,
Is it normal for a passport to be copied when exchanging a few hundred euros?
Just now on Suvarnabhumi to Super Rich. Had read about it on this blog, so I went to the location on the train. There turned out to be two Super Riches: a red one and a green one. In the article here there was a picture of the red one, but I saw some Thai standing on the green one and thought: "They must know for sure?" Weird two Super Riches within 25 meters so to speak. The green one chosen was already a lot better rate than in the arrivals hall.
Now, when exchanging money, I have already noticed that people do not ask anything, that people sometimes ask for the name (without checking whether it is correct), but copying the passport and then adding that copy to a document from the exchange?
Regards,
Roger
They do here in Hua Hin too.
Please use a copy of my passport and that will be accepted.
Here I am also very curious about how it works with copying your passport when exchanging money.
It always had a weird feeling about it
Keep in mind that if you have a copy of your passport made, you will invalidate it yourself.
By putting 2 slashes on it, or writing on it for what it serves with your signature across it
Hi Roger. What I always did with the copy of my passport was at least request a copy back and cross out my citizen service number. I have now found out that they also accept my driver's license. Regards, Jeanine
Copying ID with everyone who exchanges money for any amount (including a Thai who comes to exchange a small amount) is normal and even mandatory I thought. We then used the ID of my Thai wife, which gives more security than with a copy of my passport.
Incidentally, there are (at least?) 3 different companies with the name Super Rich, so that you will come across several is also true. Always look at the exchange rate indicated on the displays, even if they keep a close eye on each other. The fact that there are people somewhere is no guarantee that there is really the best course there, that can also be herd animal behavior.
That is the normal course of events. Every time I withdraw money from the Bangkok Bank, a copy of my passport is made in 90%.
This copy is then stapled to the form. I have no problem with that.
They are required to do so these days.
IN the CITY there are 3 Superriches-orange (the largest, with the most branches), green (super busy-usually has slightly better rates) and blue.
Departed from Swampy 13/3 myself and had some time left: there are now 4 exchange offices in the ARL area, all of which offer much better rates, including HAPPY Rich and VALUE. Stand next to each other, so you can immediately compare the rates. AND the KrungThaibank now also has a counter that offers normal city rates, so lower than SR and much better than In the airport.
The fact that your pass has been copied has been the case for years - and the name of the hotel or mobuy number is being asked - a bit strange that you only now find out.
As a side note, it is now also possible to travel to Khao Sarn with those MINI vans FROM swampy directo linea recta-100 bt. Counter next to all those other buses.
If they don't know you yet, they sometimes will.
Copy with the data you do not want to share crossed out is accepted.
