Dear readers,

I take my Honda Freed to the garage for maintenance every 10.000 km, completely by the book. In the Netherlands, the maintenance interval for newer cars is often 20.000 or 30.000 km.

Can someone explain this difference?

Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Bert

To begin with, the roads in Thailand are considerably dustier than in the Netherlands.
The type of oil used is also important, fully synthetic or semi-synthetic, also matters.
I myself have been driving here for years and have also asked about this at the dealer, but apart from the 2 aforementioned reasons, I have never received an adequate answer to this.
You could of course inquire in the Netherlands regarding the same make and type of car.
But oh well, an extra service can't hurt I think, and you don't have to leave it for the price, unlike the Netherlands.
Incidentally, I wonder, in the Netherlands with many cars, at least with VW, there is an automatic interval entry, is that not the case with Honda?
This can of course be set in software, and perhaps for the above-mentioned reason it does not apply here.

The extremely high ambient temperature and the high levels of dust in the interior.

Very simple, I thought. You earn more from maintenance.

My Chevy is serviced every 20.000 miles or once a year. May depend on the model and version of your car.

The difference is in the type of oil used. In Europe, a high-quality synthetic oil is now used almost everywhere, which is more resistant to high temperatures and therefore retains its properties much longer. However, this synthetic oil is considerably more expensive, which is why maintenance in the EU is much more expensive (the wage costs also play a role) than in Thailand. However, this oil is too expensive for many Thais, so they prefer to go twice, if at all, for a service that costs half as much as once for a more expensive one.

is the dealer offering you 2 types of oil here, the cheaper or the high-quality synthetic oil i always choose the 2nd option and yet i have to have service every 10.000 km in my case it does not matter i do not drive more than approximately 10.000 km per years so I go every year for a service as I am out of warranty time

Isuzu D-Max… 1st Service 6 months: 1,516 THB. Maintenance 1 year: 1,979 THB. During this maintenance, the wheels were also aligned and centered. When you get the car back, both the inside and outside have been cleaned. Well, I happily go to the garage every 6 months (or 10.000 km) 🙂

The service book of the Chevrolet Trailblazer indicates every 20.000 km. service or every year, whichever comes first.
Check your maintenance book again, it concerns the more difficult working conditions in Thailand, temperature, dirt, rubbers, battery, oil, etc., which means that earlier maintenance is required if you want to keep the operational reliability of the car optimal.

When using half or fully synthetic motor oil, an interval of 10.000 km is indeed quite short.
costs money unnecessarily and is also bad for the environment.

HOWEVER: The manufacturer has determined that 10.000 km and if you do not adhere to it, you may have bad luck because your warranty is also gone.
So in the warranty period I would adhere to the prescribed maintenance interval.

This is the same in Malaysia and that is due to the low revs / speed.
In Thailand, the average speed is considerably lower than in NL, so the engine
soiled faster. Therefore, the service interval is at 10k km.

My MU 7 4WD even had a check up every 5000 km, and was indeed just a check up, tire pressure, water level battery. Top up windshield washer fluid, clean the car inside and out, the engine was also cleaned. Wear on brakes and drive belts are checked. Also free breakfast, etc. cost 314 Baht at Tri Petch Importer Isuzu Thailand. in Bangkok.

It has nothing to do with dust or heat, if it is new, do the intervals because of the warranty. Motor wears less because it does not have to warm up as much as in the Netherlands, for example.

    remember well :
a fully synthetic oil provides the best protection against wear
an A5-B5 oil is the best you can buy.
this is, for example, 0w-30 oil with the VW standard 506.01
This oil is suitable for all climates, almost all cars and engine wear is no longer there.
slightly less good but still a fully synthetic oil is 5w-30 or 5w-40.

at 0w-30 your car will run about 1km more on a liter of petrol

the brand does not play a role because all specifications are based on nato requirements.

Thank you all, will keep it up to date.
It's not so much about the money as it is about the time.
Take the car to the garage for a day every 4-5 months, etc.
