Can't watch Ziggo in Thailand despite VPN?
Dear readers,
Since the beginning of March I have been using expressVPN to watch Dutch TV programs from Ziggo. After some research and reading the Thailand blog, it seemed like a wise choice. However, since the beginning of June I can no longer watch Ziggo TV, I keep getting the message that it is not allowed to watch programs outside the EU. True, but I was hoping to get around this via a VPN.
I am working with the expressVPN helpdesk to find out what the problem is, but it seems that Ziggo is now able to recognize VPN traffic outside the EU. Do multiple users have this problem?
Regards,
Ad
It works fine for me.
I use Hide.me VPN.
Have you thought about also turning off the location in your device's settings?
Hello French,
Disabling the location unfortunately does not solve it.
Also tried Hide.me but same problem. The NOS streaming and missed broadcast do work with my ExpressVPN, but Ziggi blocks me.
But thanks for your response anyway.
I have GOOSE VPN – Dutch company – and receive Ziggo without any problems …
Why don't you just call/email Ziggo?
I can not imagine that they will help me with this problem .
Have experienced twice that a website knows through which IPs a VPN works. For example, they do not allow you to post a 'comment' or to register. A certain website even knows this about a lot of (foreign) IP addresses that are used for VPN.
Just tried it and it works for me too. I use AVG's VPN, which costs something like 500 thb per year. I used to use a free VPN for that, but it didn't work with Ziggo go. So you would think that the VPN is not working properly.
My VPN works well in itself, NOS streaming and missed broadcasts are fine. I can watch the broadcasts from Thailand without any problems. However, Ziggo blocks me.

VPN from AVG costs 35,88 euros per year, so about 1000 thb.
Not expensive but double what you indicate 😉
I use proton vpn.
En see and stuff I can just look. Vtm go gives the message you are abroad.
So the VPN is of no use here either.
I pay 5$ per month.
I read that avg's vpn costs about 500 baht.
Just checked but I see $79 a year or $6.99 a month.
However, does switching make sense?
I also wonder if switching makes sense. More and more companies know how to block VPN connections.
In the meantime I installed hiptv and can now watch about 3000 channels, which is a lot, but it also includes all Dutch channels, including all FOX and ZIggo sports channels.

I can fine-tune the location of your VPN in NL 🙂
Or Germany and Belgium works fine.
Oh I've been doing it through FREE Hola for years.
Use hiptv.com no problem. Just go to the website
Hi Bob,
That's right, I have now installed hiptv as an alternative, an abundance of channels, but all Dutch are included and work well. I am mainly concerned with the sports channels, I have all FOX and ZIGGO sports channels available. Let's just hope they don't block this anytime soon.

hello, maybe this will work, you can set your location in the Netherlands, then it probably works.
Mvg Ben
Germany and Belgium also always work.
I have indeed set it up in Nl. Both NOS streaming and missed broadcasts are fine, but Ziggo blocks me.
Also had issues with VPN. Switched to German/Swiss provider 6 months ago. Are in 39 countries and costs 9,99 euros per month and all your annual contract takes 3,99 euros per month. Watch anywhere in the world and cancel whenever you want. Since I downloaded vavoo.to , no more freezes, no skipping In short, stress-free. Correct service, always contactable. Do download the good German language from vavoo itself.
Hola is free and has been working for years
if you enable VPN, don't forget to log in again as well
And if you use GOOSE you can try various IP addresses. Free VPN doesn't always work and GOOSE is almost free but it does work
I know the problem, ziggo and vpn only works via wifi. So not on your phone with 4 g. The location is then known. Hide your location or anything else doesn't work.
Succes
If you have a VPN connection, but it doesn't matter if you use 4G or WiFi.
You can also try hotspot on your phone and watch with a computer. Guaranteed to work. I have vpn express myself, works great.
I tried, but Zigo still blocks me.
NLTV has ziggo in its program, but most sports channels, I don't know if there are others.
We have nord VPN (paid not that expensive). First clear cache, that gives more ram. (that saves fits and starts with live viewing.) then turn off location and synchronization. Only then turn on VPN and set to the Netherlands via map, then quick connect. That's done. Only then turn on the ziggo app or KPN or whatever you have, and just watch, or record your channel at home or watch what you have recorded. (BECAUSE BY TURNING ON THAT VPN FIRST THEY THINK THAT YOU ARE IN THE NETHERLANDS.) When you're done watching, turn off vpn again, and turn on your synchronization again. That's what we've been doing for years.
Oh yeah, I'm watching with my tablet.
I can't even watch Ziggo anymore. I use northvpn.
Setup options?
Above is using a certain setting over years. But this vpn recognition and blocking is really very recent. I was able to watch ziggo go in Thailand without any problems until recently
Not all your traffic may go through the VPN, and you may need to adjust the settings.
Google for example ipleak to test where your VPN goes on the internet.
Hello Ad. How do you watch, with the phone or with a computer? Do you use WiFi or 4G?
I watch with a computer via WiFi. I also tried via 4g, via mobile hotspot. This also does not solve the problem.
I think ziggo somehow sees your location, or your vpn setting is wrong. Try another country in Europe.
I have expressvpn but the ziggo app doesn't work on my smart phone. I have a tplink router and if I put my thai sim card in the router it works fine. I am a formula 1 so I only watch ziggo sport on channel 24.
Have a look in vpn settings. Is protocol set to automatic?
Hi Ad,
When I'm on holiday in Thailand I also use Ziggo.
The same problem occurs with me.
My solution is after starting the VPN (I use Vyprvpn), I use as browser
the Microsoft Edge or Explorer.
With my Chrome browser, which I normally use for everything, I am blocked by Ziggo.
This has helped for me. My location is just on, it doesn't make a difference.
Good luck,
Rob
Location on/off, WiFi or 4G… none of that matters with VPN! Most VPN farmers have servers all over the world. You must make sure you connect to a DUTCH server!
You can check that by going to e.g. https://nld.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/whats-my-ip/ to go. Then the Country should say “NETHERLANDS”. If not, then you use a server elsewhere in the world.
