Home » Reader question » Reader question: Why can't I do internet banking in Thailand?
Dear readers,
A strange thing, internet banking was refused to me at GSB bank. I have my pension deposited there every month as of 01-01-2016. I also have two fixed accounts there. I also have an account with Krungtai and Kasikorn bank where I can use internet banking.
As the reason for the refusal, I was told that internet banking is not possible for non-Thai people.
Find this very strange. Anyone the same experience?
Regards,
Henk
Have the same experience at Kasikorn
My experience in this regard, the lady behind the counter had no experience with the internet herself, she could not advise the customer. So asking a colleague for help is not done; No, Mr Falang, it is not possible for you to use internet banking.
Went to another branch where it was no problem at all and within 2 days I had both internet banking via the PC and via the app on my phone.
Opposite experience. I have been doing internet banking for years through Siam Commercial Bank, both when staying in Thailand and abroad. I do have a home/address in Thailand and a mobile Thai phone number.
Yes, that's really typical Thai, if they don't know behind the counter, the answer is definitely no.
Asking a colleague is a loss of face and Thai really doesn't want that.
I have internet at SCB and Bangkok Bank, both and I can also pay abroad. (online payments)
So just shop around at some banks and kick GSB out.
Greetings Nico
Moderator: Please don't ask questions but answer the reader's question.
Just go to the Bangkok Bank. Internet via computer or android app, simple, you can arrange it tomorrow.
That's right, you can do internet banking at bkk bank, but you cannot transfer euros to the Netherlands via the internet.
That is possible at the BKK. I can just send euros to the Netherlands. The first time via the internet this was not possible, but I received a message. As a foreigner this had to be arranged through the office. This was done within 10 minutes. Now I can simply send any amount to a fixed account in the Netherlands.
I understand that you must use a Thai phone number to make a payment in Thailand. I am not always in Thailand. So that's a problem when I'm back in Belgium.
Thai telephone number also works in Belgium. Also and pre-paid number.
No problem at all, just keep your Thai prepaid card topped up. You can even do it online with your thai bank. If you want to do some banking, just turn on your Thai phone and wait for the OTP text message. I have banked so many times in Europe with my Thai bank.
We used to have a company here, so you have to.
Emiel You can solve this by turning on roaming in advance (in Thailand)
(this is also possible with a prepaid, True is a good provider.
With a registered SIM card, otherwise it will be blocked over time.
Receiving OTPs costs little to nothing here in the Netherlands/Belgium.
I live in Jomtiën and am very satisfied with the Kasikornbank on the beach road.
That is indeed a strange story. Probably only at this bank anyway.
At least at SCB, Bangkok bank and Kasikorn it is not a problem
You yourself indicate that internet banking is possible with Kasikorn and Krungthai. So how about the idea of having your pension transferred to 1 of those banks instead of SCB?? And it is NOT the case that farang are not allowed to use internet banking. I have been doing it for years to my complete satisfaction at BKK bank.
