Retinal surgery in Korat?
Dear readers,
I live in Korat (Nakhon Ratchasima) I see with 1 eye blurry and black spots. After a visit to the ophthalmologist at St. Mary's Hospital, I was told that my retina is detaching and I need surgery. This was not possible at St. Mary's and I was referred to the only specialist here in Korat who is in Maharath Hospital. Been there today and I was told by “her” that she does not operate Farang, only Thai because there would be a difference in the eyes of a Farang and a Thai.
I was referred to Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok who treated Farang.
Do any of you have any experience like I mentioned here?
My question is now to you readers of this blog: is there no clinic in Korat that performs these retinal operations and if anyone knows of a clinic here I would very much like to hear about it as a matter of urgency. Also what the approximate costs of this are, I would be very grateful to you.
Regards,
Falang01

Never heard that the eyes of a Thai are different from a Ferang.
She just doesn't want to operate on you. Cataract surgeries and other eye surgeries
are done almost as standard in every large hospital.
Bumrungrad is an excellent hospital I have been there in 2004
eyes lasered and can heartily recommend it. In the province it will of course
be a bit cheaper.
Success.
YES
Retinal operations are not routinely performed in all hospitals in the Netherlands.
My hospital in the Netherlands sent a taxi to an academic hospital, where the operation was performed within 1 day.
Cataract surgery is a relatively simple procedure. Not a retina. 3 to 4 holes around 1 mm are drilled into your eye up to the back where the retina is located.
Bungrungrad is indeed a fine hospital.
Dear Falang02,
a retinal detachment should be operated on as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the more chance of permanent damage / permanent poor vision. Unfortunately I also had a retinal detachment in the right eye after cataract surgery. Not realizing what the black spots were floating in my eye I waited too long and the damage was permanent. After consultation, surgery was performed immediately at the UMC. My vision with that eye is now blurry and distorted, permanent. So rush to the eye surgeon as soon as possible! Fri. Regards, Gert W.
Indeed ,
You don't have to wait weeks for a retinal detachment.
In the Netherlands, surgery is performed within 7 days after diagnosis.
After retinal surgery, cataract surgery is standard practice within a few months.
I would also recommend bunrungrad and if insured first contact the Dutch insurance.
Gert,
the blurred vision is because cataracts occur within 3 months after retinal surgery.
after retinal surgery, cataract surgery is often performed in the Netherlands.
After my retinal detachment surgery, my vision is also distorted.
In addition, the image with the operated on is also about 30% larger than the other eye.
Indeed, one should not wait weeks for an operation.
Rutnin eye hospital Bangkok (see their website)
I have already had two major eye surgeries .
highly recommended . Highly skilled trained eye surgeons.
When it comes to eyes, I recommend the Rutnin hospital in BKK.
This hospital does nothing but specialize in treating eye diseases.
One of the best eye hospitals in Asia.

Thai eyes Western eyes are (little) different, I heard from ophthalmologists
so bring someone with experience with western eyes bumrungrad self experience good
but expensive rutnin also has a good reputation take direct measures many western customers
be glad they told it honestly and didn't mess around themselves
it's eyes don't just pay attention to the price
In 2017, 3 weeks after arrival, I saw almost nothing with my left eye.
Via small clinic local forwarded to Bangkok.
Named 3 options of which I could only remember the first:
Sirirah, lasted a day in terms of research…between only Thai next day research in terms of operation fitness.
Appointment made for surgery within 7 days.
Happened, oil in the eye because the retina was really bad.
In eye hospital Rotterdam after 2 months of operation oil removed and check.
After 3 years I have 90% VIE. Speed with retinal problems is top priority.
Thank you Sirira hospital where I was well helped as a farang between …
Among hundreds of Thai with eye problems
So no private hospital but have top doctors
had.
Thank you Sirirah hospital Bangkok
Pay attention! Such retinal surgery is far from simple! And usually quite urgent;
Go to Bangkok (indeed Burungrad) or to the eye clinic of the Bangkok Hospital in Pattaya, where I recommend that you contact doctores Attaporn Suwannik;
You can call me on 08 96 888 175;
Jean LePaige
I know a nurse in an eye department in a hospital outside Bangkok. She let me know that only large specialized hospitals perform retina surgery. Many are in Bangkok. She recommends Thammasat Hospital or Rajavithi Hospital in Bangkok.
Had retina surgery about 7 years ago. Was referred to BKK hospital from Trad. Arrived there oo appointment immediately examined and after payment of estimated costs 30k baht helped immediately. Done with laser in 20 minutes. No permanent abnormality in my eye At that time, there were 2 retina specialists among the 29 ophthalmologists working there.
Good luck, Robert
