Renew Dutch driving licenses
Dear readers,
I need to renew my Dutch driving license (I have all driving licenses except bus) but I am staying in Thailand for work.
Now I'm just registered in the Netherlands, but I don't get much further on the internet and the information on Thailandblog is already years old.
I know that I have to request a form, I have now done so. But what next with regard to health declaration, etc.?
Thanks already for all the help.
Greetings,
Rob
Simply send an email to the National Road Traffic Agency (RDW). They send all the necessary documents. I did too (70 years old and my driver's license had already expired 4 months ago).
Complete all forms, include passport photo and original driver's license. (Of course registered or via DHL or other courier service).
Everything was arranged perfectly, except that the new driving license is only sent within the Netherlands. So you must have this sent to family or friends, and have someone bring it or pick it up when you are in the Netherlands.
I received my new driver's license in Thailand after having paid first, of course.
(I live in Thailand)
The necessary forms to complete are also no longer sent to an address abroad. So that also requires a family member or friend.
Since when is that not sent by email anymore?
Hi Alex.
The RDW does not send the papers, they emailed me because I am still registered in NL.
Then sent an email asking if I could authorize someone to renew/extend the driver's license.
This was their answer.
Thank you for your e-mail.
If you are still registered in the Netherlands, you can only apply for a driving license at the municipality of your Dutch place of residence. You must apply for the driving license in person, an application from abroad is not possible. You must do this in person and no one can be authorized for this.
Gr Rob
Hi Chris, I have passed on my address details from the Netherlands.
Maybe stupid that I said stay in Thailand
Hello, just renewed my driving license in the Netherlands, all arranged in a month.
Have a full driver's license
Bought an online health at CBR via dig, filled it out and sent it back to CBR
2nd received an answer that I should be inspected, made an appointment with the medical examiner via the internet.
3rd went to the medical examiner who immediately sends a message to CBR, everything is fine.
4e was able to collect a personal driver's license at the city office after two weeks
I don't think there is any other way to renew your full driver's license.
Gr Pete
Have you arranged it in the Netherlands?
If so, anyone can
For a large driver's license, you must be examined by a Dutch medical examiner
if you want a small driver's license you can arrange everything via the internet
Driver's license only
must personally collect it from the municipality where you are registered and immediately hand in your old driving licence. Maybe someone can authorize ?
Dear Rob,
I found this information for you on the internet:
https://www.nederlandwereldwijd.nl/landen/thailand/wonen-en-werken/rijbewijs-verlengen-in-het-buitenland
Success!
You work, so I assume you are younger than 75, then you do not need a health certificate.
https://www.rdw.nl/particulier/voertuigen/auto/het-rijbewijs/nederlands-rijbewijs-verlengen
But for driving licenses C and D, this must always be:
https://www.rdw.nl/particulier/voertuigen/auto/het-rijbewijs/medisch-geschiktheid
Your situation – residing abroad but living in NL – is not described.
I, for example, live in Thailand (so deregistered from NL) and have just followed this procedure: https://www.rdw.nl/particulier/voertuigen/auto/het-rijbewijs/nederlands-rijbewijs-verlengen-wonend-buitend-nederland
You live in the Netherlands so you should follow this procedure:
https://www.rdw.nl/particulier/voertuigen/auto/het-rijbewijs/nederlands-rijbewijs-verlengen.
You are a special case, because you are staying abroad for a long time while you are registered in NL. Nothing is mentioned about that… So call Veendam!
https://www.rdw.nl/particulier/voertuigen/auto/het-rijbewijs/nederlands-rijbewijs-verlengen here is all the info you want to know.
Your driver's license no longer expires these days.
YOU DO have a driving license, so when you are back in the Netherlands you can extend your driving license or authorization. Can you require your driver's license from Thailand, the truck is no longer credited due to inspection, after inspection in the Netherlands you can get it again.
Was also thinking about the upcoming renewal of my NL. drivers license..
But why should I do it, what is your reason?
I live in TH and continue to live here, have 2 Thai driving licenses…
In NL I can rent if necessary with my Thai driver's license.
So does anyone have a good motivation for me to extend it??
If I ever go to the Netherlands again or should, this is for me
an additional means of identification for money matters, for example.
You could use your passport for that??
You have it with you on a trip to NL anyway
But I get your point...
I don't think I'll renew my driver's license, should it happen
are necessary for repatriation, I will renew my Dutch driving license on the spot
Driver's license as such does not expire / expires, only your driving license I thought
If you are 60+ like me, you must have a health certificate that you can get from prescribed doctors in the Netherlands, I did this myself when I was in the Netherlands in February.
I have now received a message that it is all right and when I am back in the Netherlands in May I will go to the municipality for my new driving licence. Inspection is valid for 1 year.
The health declaration is only required for the large driver's license at 60+, so you can still continue to drive the luxury car or motorcycle.
A bit strange but nice, money beating from our government and job creation for certain agencies with medical examinations.
If you are 70+, you also need a health declaration for a luxury car and motorcycle.
For the NL driver's license, as soon as there is any doubt about your mental and/or physical abilities to drive a motor vehicle, you are legally obliged to have yourself examined by an authorized medical examiner. Even if you are younger than 60 (large driver's license) or 75 (luxury car, motorcycle).
