Dear readers,

After a lot of Googling, I intend to do my 9-day visit to the Isaan as follows:

  • Departure February 1 from Koh Chang to Pakchong, then a few days in Korat.
  • Then towards Udon Thani (including Red Lotus Lake).

I am 58 and traveling alone. Does anyone know the best way to travel from Trat to Pakchong by public transport? It is not the intention to travel up and down the detour over Bangkok again.

Please also tips for a good affordable jungle tour in Khao Yai.

Regards,

Lieve

    Dear Dear,

Have lived in Pakchong for several years and now live in Kram (prov. Rayong).
The buses from Trat, come via Chanthaburi and Klaeng (14 km. from me),
and then take the 344 foam up to Bangkok. End station into Ekkamai
Bangkok. Then you have to go to Monchit Bus Station for the connection to Pakchong,
or Khorat. I am almost certain that there is not a good bus connection to
to pass inside. Have you ever done it with your own transport, but then come
you exit at the south end of the Khao Yai Park. You have to go through/around it.
    Not recommended.
This route can also be done from Chanthaburi via the 317 up towards Sa Kaeo,
on to Prachinburi. From there to the right up towards Pakchong-Khorat.
But that is ultimately the same trajectory as I described above.
If you get off in Chanthaburi and inquire at the bus station, they may have a
have bus connection or maybe minibus, to Khorat.

    Good luck,

    John.

    Dear Dear,

upon closer inspection and driving the route on Google Earth, I come to the realization that if such a connection exists; that journey does not go to Pakchong but directly to Khorat.
It is best to continue from Prachinburi to Saraburi, and then on to Pakchong.
    Good trip!

    Regards,

    John

Before the trip to Khao Yai, I would take a look at Ton and Tan's site... super motivated people [he is Dutch, she is a Thai who tries to speak Dutch... super fun...! ] We opted for an overnight trip…Recommended!

    Have fun
