Chiang Mai airport is canceling 54 flights and rescheduling another 37 flights on New Year's Eve. This is for safety. During the countdown, fireworks and lanterns being released into the air are too dangerous for air traffic.

General manager of Amornrux Choomsai Na Ayuthaya airport says that after 19.00 pm the airspace above Chaing Mai will be closed. The cancellations and reschedulings relate to flights departing and/or arriving at the airport after closing time.

Amornrux also says that extra checks will be carried out for drugs in passengers' suitcases during this period. It also points out that nam prik num, a northern-style chili paste, can only be carried in hand luggage in packages of less than 100 milliliters.

how can you cancel flights if they have known for 5 years that they will not fly on New Year's Eve? you keep watching the thai news reporting….. they can already post the same message for 2020…..

    What a strange story.
You would think that every year it is 1 X New Year's Eve.
Apparently this is the 1st time in Chiang Mai passing by December 31st.
And now they have to cancel flights unexpectedly.
I wish them the best of luck and a happy new year
