Home » Reader question » Reader question: Who has more information about wintering in Thailand?
Dear,
I have read with great interest Mr. Boy's article on wintering in Thailand. Now my wife and I are orienting ourselves for next winter. We are Dutch but live in Belgium just across the border.
There are still a few puzzle pieces missing to get a good picture of whether wintering in Thailand would be a good choice for us.
Now I hope to be able to deposit those questions with you. These read as follows:
- Can you name reliable websites where we can find housing offers?
- What are the costs for a mid-range (three-star) holiday home for a period of 3 months?
- Which place in Thailand is best for an elderly couple?
We are very grateful for the opportunity to ask our questions.
Best regards,
Marcel & Ans

It depends a bit on what you want, but there are a lot of elderly people living in Hua Hin and the surrounding area.
I myself live 20 km south of Hua Hin, in a beautiful village where the houses are still cheap. In Hua Hin the prices are again significantly higher.
There are several options as far as I've seen. I've been to resorts, where you can get a nice modest home and others where you live really luxuriously, with your own swimming pool and a large house.
I think that better answers will be sent later, because unfortunately I cannot mention prices, but I can say that they have already reached almost European level in the city.
Good luck in your search.
The question that Marcel and Ans ask could also have been my question.
I am also considering escaping the winter. An organized trip is too short, partly in view of the costs involved for the short period of such a trip.
I would then opt for an apartment or rent something together with others. For example with Marcel and Ans. (it's an idea because I'm alone)
That is why I am interested in the course of the answers to this question.
Sincerely, Joannes
Look up http://www.bahtsold.com/home

Just think about sitting in a hotel and looking around at your leisure. I want to go myself this year. But now I have a question for the Thailandblog readers. Does anyone know how or what about indoor lances, about taking my dog with me. Go to Chaing-Mai Thanks in advance
Searching this road log for “Overwintering” You will come across a number of experiences that can help you. I myself wrote “Overwintering as we do it”
Maybe it will help you.

Take a look at trip advisor at paradise rentals in chiang mai
Beautiful location 25 km outside the city golf course close by etc etc
Villas, apartments, studios for rent for reasonable prices
If the organized trips are too short, it is possible to extend the return flight. You can then continue independently after your hotel and book / rent. For example, I have often booked a beach holiday. Relax in a luxury hotel. I reschedule the return flight 2 to 3 weeks later and make my own plan after the hotel. Doesn't cost anything extra... It's handy to see how your visa is.
Dear Marcel and Ans, if you go to: overwinteren.com on the net, you will come to the website of George and Marianne Snellebrand. Both are professional hibernators in many countries (including Thailand). They can certainly help you further. Their office is in Maastricht Nl.Good luck.
BEST REGARDS

What do you do if you have rented a house, eat out or cook and do your shopping yourself? Are there any language problems there?
My dear Maud,
If you rent a house or apartment in Thailand, you usually have the option to cook for yourself.
It is also possible to buy your food on the market (dirt cheap) or eat out.
Depending on the area of your stay , the price is very different .
With us in Bangsaray we are blessed with a good Belgian bakery who also offers a meal every evening for the price of 135 bth. The best solution for people who like European food. Other restaurants of good taste are also discussed here.
My advice is to cook for yourself if you like, but better eat out.
You don't have fries for it in Belgium yet.
So welcome without worries and enjoy.
polite greetings
jeerawan
