Reader question: Who has an experience with Swiss Air?

Dear readers,

Last March I booked a flight to Phuket for 2 people. The journey first goes to Zurich and then to Phuket. For the 1st trip I booked 2 seats with extra legroom and paid €60 for them. To my surprise, when I checked in on November 15, I was suddenly allocated 2 seats without extra legroom.

After complaining about this to my travel agent Gate 1, they got the answer from: They had used another aircraft for the Amsterdam – Zurich flight and they did not have seats with extra legroom. They may always use other devices, but refunds will not be made.

I am not directly concerned with the € 60. The only thing that bothers me is that you pay an extra service in good faith and then hear later that you will not receive a refund.

Thank you for your comment(s)!!

Regards,

Hans

Hans, unfortunately you don't say whether you got extra legroom on the longest route.

When I book economy+, or whatever name is given to it these days, I often see on the booking confirmation that the higher seat class is only guaranteed on the longest route.

      Dear Erik,
      Thank you for your response.
Unfortunately, we also did not get 2 seats with legroom for the long flight.
      Regards,
      Hans

You have purchased a product/service, so if that product is not delivered, you should simply get your money back.
You probably paid your travel agent and they delivered your ticket, so they have to get your money back.
What else do you have a travel agent for?
You can also book a ticket directly with an airline.

Otherwise, file a complaint with or against the travel agent.

Perhaps it is useful to also check with SwissAir how things have been arranged with the refund, and whether another aircraft has indeed been used, and not just rely on the beautiful blue eyes of the travel agent.

      Dear Ruud,
You gave me very useful tips!!!
From the response of my travel agent Gate 1, I am not getting a refund from Schwiss Air.
I think it would indeed be useful to inquire directly with Schwiss Air!!
If nothing comes of this, it is still possible to approach the Vakantieman of broadcaster Max.
You will hear from me whether this has yielded anything?
      Thanks again for your suggestions!
      Regards,
      Hans.

    Flew yesterday with Swiss Air.
Short flight alcohol free..long flight economy alcohol pay.
    Wine 8 euros..beer 5 euros.
    Food mediocre.
Little legroom. Next time different company.

I recently flew from Düsseldorf to Zurich economy, more legroom than with economy KLM for me swiss super

      • Chander says up

Eef, and how many hours of flying was it from Dusseldorf to Zurich?

Hevlogrn to Belgium and back a year or two ago
With Swissair, never again. Outrageous service and you worxt transported like a sardine. Even if they offer a flight for 100 euros, no thanks.

SwissAir has gone bankrupt and Crossair has taken over the estate under the name 'Swiss' but with the logo of the red cross, so a bit sneeky!
This year I flew from Johannenburg with Swiss, having booked Lufthansa.
But Swiss is not the quality you are used to from Swiss timepieces!!

    • Jack S says up

Not quite right. Crossair was part of Swissair and received 40% of its revenue from Swissair. They took over parts, but eventually Lufthansa took them over in 2005.

That is why it is possible that you fly with Swiss, while you book with Lufthansa. They should actually be of the same standard.

Also flew a number of times with Swiss a few years ago.
Nothing bad to report but nothing special either. So very mediocre.
The waiting areas/gates in Zurich were too small to give a picture to all the passengers. We had to queue for the toilets.

Swiss is together with Lufthansa. Eurwing, Austrian, Eva Air, Turkish Airlines, Thai and a number of other companies in Star Alliance.

I have flown with one of these airlines several times. ALSO with Swiss. I file as "handicapped" under priority.
I find the story and some reactions a bit unclear without explanation.

I am very pleased with the SIMILAR treatment at all these companies. So I clearly don't identify with it.

    Last two bookings with Swiss
    Dusseldorf, Zurich, Bangkok, with Swiss
Bangkok, Vienna, Dusseldorf. Booked with Swiss flown with Austrian and Lufthansa
    Brussels, Zurich, Bangkok with Swiss
    Bangkok, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf. with Lufthansa.

    Last booking with Eurowings
    Dusseldorf Munich Bangkok
Back Bangkok, Frankfurt Dusseldorf with Lufthansa and Eurowings.

Never complaints. Perfect guidance assistance and very fast handling from check-in to boarding

Always book directly with Swiss or before and that is even now possible through Eurowings. Then go via Munich. Direct Lufthansa is also going perfectly.

Some are good! It is already 26 companies. There is a good chance that you are traveling with a Star Alliance partner. They are all listed here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Alliance

Priority can be good (I also had to wait for first class in Bangkok) but not getting what you paid for and bad service on board is something else. Hahaha no Siss for me then

    • rori says up

I don't fly business class or first class. Get priority due to handicap.
The service of Swiss is perfect in contrast to that of KLM, Emirates, Guld Air and others.

Maybe it's the behavior at the counter

    sorry swiss

Hans, if you had to pay 60 euros for extra legroom for that first flight and you didn't get it, I think they should refund that money. I would write to a consumer association or complain to every possible authority and demand that money back. This is not as it should be.
I can't really imagine that this is normal. At the very least, they owe a plausible explanation.

    • Cornelis says up

Isn't the problem in the fact that the booking was not made directly with the airline? Then you can only do business through your travel agent / the website where the booking was made, even with matters such as changes and refunds.

    • Hans vdBen says up

      Dear Jack S,
I have now written an email to my travel agent Gate 1. Asked them for the correct email address of Swiss Air. If they do not (properly) reply to this, I will take other measures to get my point.
An email to Omroep Max's holiday man wouldn't be that crazy either.
      Thanks for your suggestions!
As soon as there is news you will hear from me!!
      Greetings from warm Phuket

      Hans.

      • Cornelis says up

You should not rule out that Gate1 has sold you something that cannot be 'delivered' in the short term. In that case, Swiss will not refund you anything. It is better to buy your ticket directly from the airline, then you can also do business directly with them in case of problems and you will not be referred to the – unnecessary – intermediary.
