Dear readers,

We have to leave Thailand for 5 days because our Non-O expires. We have decided to fly from Bangkok to Siem Reap from February 3 to February 7, 2020.

What possibilities and sights are there in this region to fill these days in a sensible and satisfactory way, in addition to a visit to Ankor Wat?

I would like to receive some tips and/or suggestions.

Regards,

I used to go on a bike ride. Opted for a guided bike tour as I have absolutely no sense of direction. So together with a guide from the hotel we drove around for about 3 hours. Nice to see how people live there. I was staying at the Lotus Lodge hotel at the time.

I myself found that there is little to experience besides the angor watt.
Phnom Penh has much more to offer.
In that case I would rather visit Phnom Penh where you can easily spend 3 days. Killing fields, genocide museum, palace, etc.

Or from Phnom Penh the boat back to Siem Reap which is also a challenge.
Personally, I found 1 day Phnom Penh sufficient.
Use tuk tuk to the angor watt at sunrise and let it drive you around.
At about 3 o'clock you have had the most highlights.

I toured around Angkor Wat for three days (with a three-day pass) and then you haven't seen everything yet. All the highlights in three hours is ridiculous. It is very worthwhile . All temples are different.

You need three days anyway to visit all the ruin complexes of the former city of Ankor with more than a million inhabitants. Cycling is the ideal way to do that.

Well if you want you can spend 3 days in Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat is beautiful but seen a ruin in the world and you have seen almost all of them, in the province of Buriram there is a copy of that temple on a scale of 1/20 I think: Prasath Phanom Rung, very imposing. To fully explore Angkor Wat, it is better to take two/three days. Departure very early in the morning before dawn, the whole opens at sunrise. This way you avoid the mass tourists.
Furthermore, you have Pubstreet and a parallel of it where you imagine yourself in Montmartre: left and right of the narrow alley of restaurants, in Pubstreet good beer: Ankor for 50 US cents !!! Remember everything is in US dollars, if you go to the ATM you will get US dollars. Have fun over there!!!!

If you want to see Angkor and the rest of the temple complex, you should already count on 3 days. A visit to Lake Tonle sap is certainly also worthwhile. And everything also depends on your arrival and departure times, if you arrive in the afternoon you can still go to Tonle sap (half a day is sufficient) If you leave on the 5th day in the evening you can still go to Phnom Kulen, but this cannot be done in half a day, so planning well is the message

You can take a trip to Kulen Mountain (Phnom Kulen), with waterfall and temple. And if you insist, Tonle Sap is also around the corner, but the tours on offer there are of the knock-the-tourist-money-out-of-the-pocket type (pictures with snakes, the obligatory commodity) and partly disguised as good purpose (rice for the children, school supplies,…). And of course not to forget the totally non-mandatory tip for the boat driver. Try to arrange the Tonle Sap visit in a different way.

The museum of Siem Reap is definitely worth it! Behind this is a circus which I was very impressed with, all done by orphans. Incredible, don't miss it!

There is a lot to do in Siem real. Go to the Zilk Farm. A magical place where you can see how a silkworm cocoon is processed into beautiful rugs and clothing. Go to a circus performance. Have a picnic at the Siem Real River. Go to Phno. Kulem National Park. In short, too many to mention. Greetings Tonk

Yes, Ankor Wat and relaxing in Pup street will keep you busy for 3 to 4 days.

You can also visit the art gallery, you can see how the beautiful images, dishes, paintings, etc. are made (free and not far from the pub street) if you want you can also buy there, but it is certainly not mandatory
