Dear readers,

Does anyone know when Thailand will reopen to tourists without 15 days of solitary confinement aka quarantine. I read all kinds of things about Phuket, Samui, Chiang Mai and Hua Hin, but if it's all with ASQ, then I don't need it. I will not go to a country to be imprisoned voluntarily and against payment.

I myself want to go to Thailand in mid-October, then they will already be far with vaccination and things can still open again for vaccinated foreigners?

Regards,

Chose

At the moment the infections are rising very fast, maybe this will drop again in a while. However, vaccination is very slow in Thailand, so far only 6 percent are fully vaccinated. The Prime Minister has made a statement that the country would open to tourists without restrictions sometime in October, but doubt he will have any active memories of that when the time comes.

Chances are very small that you will be able to enter again in October, it is wise to take this into account and to postpone plans to next year. If you think logically, it would also be strange that after a very long time of strict entry requirements, the country suddenly opens up. Even for Thailand this would be very strange.

That's nice that it's going so slowly. Open everything again and then Thailand will be one of the first countries with a natural herd immunity.

Meanwhile, 12 million people have been vaccinated at least once in Thailand. This amounts to about 1% of the total group of adults to be vaccinated (an estimated 20 to 50 million people). Unfortunately also partly with Sinovac, which does count in the figures, but does not offer effective protection against the Delta variant.

Currently, 6 million vaccinations are being administered and that is exactly what is available monthly. Vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna will not be added until Q4. Assuming that those 6 million vaccines remain available in the coming months, Thailand will be at least another 6 to 8 months away. So until at least January (very optimistic), but rather March/April 2022.

So I'm not counting on Thailand opening before April 1, 2022. And then we shouldn't have to deal with new variants.

I'm afraid, I'm afraid you're forgetting that 2 vaccines are needed and Sinovac now gives a third. With 100 million vaccines (50 million people) at a ratio of 6 million per month, I arrive at more than 16 months, so the end of 2022 could be possible if nothing goes wrong with the deliveries.

Organizing the vaccination is not the problem. Get the vaccines.
Look how badly things went in the beginning in Europe when the vaccines still had to be produced in large numbers. But once the supplies were available, things ran like clockwork, with vaccines now in surplus.
IF Thailand weren't so stubborn and stingy and came up with money to buy vaccines at normal prices, they could open to vaccinees as early as October.
      But yes, stinginess deceives wisdom.

You can be 99% sure…without quarantine not for the current year.

If you really follow the news here every day, you shouldn't even want to go there as a holiday maker.
Of course you can't go to Thailand in October and certainly not without quarantine.
If only 5% of say 70 million people are now vaccinated in Thailand… fill in the rest yourself.

No, dear Koos, you better postpone it for a while, especially if you think it will be a holiday like before. Because that is no longer in this year.

With the current rate of vaccination, I think it will be the end of 2022 before there is talk of free entry into Thailand. There are almost no vaccines available and with volume that is now being predicted for deliveries, for the fourth quarter, it will take all of 2022 to reach an acceptable vaccination rate for reopening. All this, of course, assuming that no new variants emerge.

“We” don't even know how covid will develop in a few days. And you ask, what will be the situation in a few months?
Vaccinate: Thailand has only received very limited vaccines. The whole vaccination program is organized in a typical Thai way, in other words: those with the right relationships and money have been vaccinated, the rest will come sometime.
The Netherlands and the rest of Europe have not even managed to vaccinate their own population sufficiently in six months. And did you think, what an infinite genius if the highly esteemed health minister Anutin will succeed in this in a few months?

    Kos,

Two weeks ago I received an email from Thai Airways that my flight (already canceled 3 times) has been canceled once again on October 16th.
The reason for this was not communicated to me.
Of course there are several airlines that fly to Bkk.
And indeed, the PM prayut has 'promised' to make Thailand accessible to vaccinated tourists in 120 days without any form of quarantine.
He said that a few weeks ago, and on the date of his 'promise' it would be October 15th.
What is such a promise worth...... Just wait and see and don't give up hope.
Also I and many others with us are really counting down to be able to return to our beloved Thailand.

    Let's hope, Joseph

    October ? forget it!

they will do everything they can to save the high season, from December.
I can see that working out BUT with quarantine by region, like the Phuket sandbox story, that will continue in 2022.

Especially read carefully what happens to you if you have been near an infected person (plane, restaurant, etc.) while you are negative yourself.

Since I was 18, so 1975 in Thailand, 22 times so far. Would love to go again in the near future, but have come to understand that current Thailand no longer resembles the old. As a fully vaccinated person, can (should) you also be quarantined with ditto COVID test at your own expense, I understand why hardly anyone takes the plane to Bangkok or Phuket. Those vaccinated tourists only pose a small risk, but they provide the necessary Bahts in the state coffers. I'm going to Mexico this year, my euros are appreciated there. Hope it will be (very) different in 2022. I'm afraid it will never be what it once was otherwise.

Let me be the angry tongue: vaccination started so late because vaccines were not ordered in time. We had to wait until the local AstroZeneca production could be started after obtaining the license. And this factory, hey, is owned by a very rich gentleman about we can't write if you don't want to go to jail. And Sinovac is made in China (it was one of the first vaccines, so no wonder it's less good) by a factory owned by another tycoon. Both are not yet rich enough and millions of vaccinations over many years is of course a godsend. And the quarantine is currently the only revenue model for the hotels and, although still useful now, it could well be maintained a little longer. Thailand, nothing surprises me anymore.
