Reader question: Sending package to Thailand
Dear readers,
I want to send a package to Thailand with mainly children's books and toys. It weighs about 42 kg.
At Post.nl, this is only possible with a maximum of 20 kg per package and that costs no less than € 105,20.
Do I now have to send a package twice or are there better solutions?

There are shippers who can ship by boat and then you only pay a fraction of what you call now. I last did it a few years ago but can't remember through who or what. It is possible that one of the other bloggers knows more about this, but it is certainly possible. Due to the longer time that the items are on the road, there is a greater chance that valuables will be stolen, but as long as they are second-hand Dutch books and second-hand children's toys, there is little chance of this. You must specify a value per item of what is in the box, but you can keep it very low (2 Euro cents per item or so) and if you want to insure, the insured value must not exceed the stated value. Good luck with that.
Thanks Erik, I know it's cheaper by boat, but the stuff is for my son and daughter and they know it's coming, so I don't want to keep them waiting for weeks this time 🙂
It can also be done by boat, but I can't help you with a name for that. It will cost a fraction of what you call now, but it will take much longer. Remember that you have to specify a value per item, but that can be almost nothing when it comes to 2nd hand stuff. If you want to insure, that value for the total may not be higher. Hopefully another blogger can help you with a name. In any case, it is possible.
I still like the price. At UPS you will spend around 600 euros for such a package of 42 kg.
With DHL for YOU. This costs € 32,50 per package. Maximum 10 kg. Send it almost every month. Average duration 8 days.
Thank you, I had already looked at DHL but apparently not good enough.
It is a pity about the low maximum weight, but I will use this for the future with smaller packages
4 X 32,50 is still cheaper than 2 X 105,20!
