Dear readers,

My hobby is in flowers and plants, mainly orchids. I go to Jomtien every year for 3 months, once took orchids home in the suitcase, but that went very wrong at Schiphol, the fine was € 1025, so no more.

Who can give me good advice and tips on how to send legally purchased orchids and addresses of growers?

I will also be in Chiang Mai.

Please respond to my request for help.

Jo

Every time I go to the Netherlands I have about 1000 baht worth of orchids with me, cut flowers, so without roots, sand, etc.
I have them packed in a box at the flower market and can use them that way
easy to take with you to the Netherlands.
I've never had any problem with customs, they even look there
    not even to.
You can also buy orchids to take with you at Bangkok airport, but then they cost a multiple compared to the flower market.
Do you take such large quantities with you and maybe even with the carrots, that is not clear from your story.
I think if there are so many that it will look more like a trade instead of a gift for family, then customs will indeed make it difficult.
I'd love to hear it !

You can also buy all legally grown Orchids legally in the Netherlands. So you don't have to ship them from Thailand to the Netherlands in, for example, hide your suitcase. As you yourself have already noticed, the fines are (too right) not wrong. So you should know that sending from Thailand is not the right method at all. That also means that if you have illegal Orchids in your house, you can still go for the ax the moment an observant policeman passes by your window. Just buy those flowers in the Netherlands and you won't have a problem. Can you still save the receipt for that observant police man.

If your hobby is flowers and plants, I assume that you do not take cut orchids home and that orchids are widely available in the Netherlands/Belgium will also be old news for you, so it will concern other species that are not for sale at your place. are.
If you come to Chiang Mai you should definitely visit the Khamtien plant and flower market, about 2ha. a succession of shops selling everything from the smallest plants to the largest trees; lots of orchids there.
There are also many orchid nurseries around Chiang Mai.
I don't know how you can take them with you or get bogged down to the Netherlands, perhaps a fellow blogger will give you a clear answer or you should inquire at customs.
I also have some in my garden in Thailand, video from 2 years ago ;) :

At BKK Airport they sell orchids grown in vitro culture. These were grown sterile in the bottle they come in, they are expensive, I believe around 400/500THB each.

If you send plants, then they should actually also be provided with a certificate that they have been inspected and are free of bugs, etc. There are compatriots who specialize in this to arrange this from BKK.

    Jo,
I don't know where you live, but there is a nursery nearby that also has an online store and of course an extensive choice of orchids. Check out his site tw
