Reader question: Should my wife be quarantined?
Dear readers,
I have heard that THAI Airways will fly back to Belgium from September 1st. My wife had her ticket converted from May to September. My question, is there a chance that she will have to go into quarantine in Belgium and also when she returns to Thailand?
Regards,
Gery
Dear Gery, I don't know the rules in Belgium, but at the moment every Thai who travels back to Thailand has to go into mandatory quarantine for two weeks. That may of course have changed by the time your girlfriend returns, because then we will be a few months further, but you can assume that those quarantine rules will stay for a while.
Dear Gery,
Thaiairways has posted on its site that flights from Brussels have also been canceled in September. The first flights would now be at the beginning of October. (But I wouldn't count on that given the circumstances).
Hey Gerry
I read this morning that Thai airways will not resume its flights until October 1st.
Brussels Bangkok..has been extended from Sept. To Oct.
And given what is happening here in Belgium in terms of 2nd wave.. that is understandable.
We also prefer to see it differently.. and have converted our flight from July into vouchers.. because we think it will be some time before Thai will fly to Brussels.
September is already ruled out in our opinion.
wait
Good luck Brit
I'm afraid that flight will not take place, our flights with Thai for September have been canceled again.
correct, we have a friend who had a flight for September from Brussels. This has been canceled this week and moved to November 12
Dear Gery. I read yesterday that Thai Airways has canceled all flights to and from Brussels in September. Restart only in October. With them I still have 1 ticket that they would refund and 2 tickets for later in the year are open. I'm slowly starting to fear for my money.
hey hello thai air also canceled its flights in september. look at thai air's site and you can see that there is nothing going on from thai air in September. I also wanted to go back to Belgium.
Dear Gery
The answer to the first part of your question is; Yes
To the second part of your question; depends when your wife returns to Thailand.
Dre
Flying to the Netherlands is possible, provided she has her papers in order, of course. KLM currently flies every Saturday, of course it can also change again. And then you will still pick them up at Schiphol, provided you are not from the province of Antwerp, because then you cannot enter the Netherlands at the moment.
Nonsense. The borders are not closed to Belgians.
Quite short-sighted, because apart from the writer talking about a flight to Belgium, it is also true that you also have to be quarantined from Thailand for 2 weeks in the Netherlands, but then at home.
That's not correct TH.NL, it is not an obligation. For countries with orange, the Dutch government recommends a 2-week quarantine. But it is also written on the same FAQ page that this advice applies to countries with a lot of Covid 19. However, Thailand owes code orange not because of infections, but because the Thai borders are still closed. With these somewhat simplistic color codes without explanation, you are being misled. A Thai person I know who returned from TH was not allowed to return to work during the week due to code orange, her colleague from Greece was allowed to work immediately, even though the risk of Corona is significantly higher there (but code yellow due to opening of the border).

Nb: For code yellow it is advised to keep an eye on your own health, from code red you will of course not be able to enter.
There are a few Thai Airways flights from Bangkok to Europe next month and 1 to Taipei.

Dear Gery,
if your wife has Thai nationality, she is currently not allowed to enter Belgium.
the advice with countries declared safe by the EU has not been approved by Belgium. Means that entering Belgium is limited to Schengen residents.
my source is “De Morgen” of July 6, which states that the Council of Ministers has decided to keep the borders closed for non-EU citizens
Dear,
Forget it. No flights from September to Belgium with Thai Airways.
According to the immigration department in Brussels, my wife must enter the country via Belgium, and not first to Schiphol, for example, or any border country, nothing can be changed.
I just have to get legally married and that can be done in Bangkok or here,,,, but I cannot enter Thailand and they cannot enter Belgium.
When I get married in Thailand, everything goes through the embassy, but when I want to get married here, it goes through the immigration department in Brussels.
All our documents are in order and there is no impediment to marriage (attorney), but the corona is throwing a spanner in the works for us,,,, and probably for many others as well.
But hey hope.
Greetings. Bo
