Home » Reader question » Reader question: Can I still take out Universal Complete health insurance?
Dear readers,
I am considering settling permanently in Thailand soon, while I now live about 50% in Thailand and 50% in the Netherlands. If I settle in Thailand, I will no longer be covered by the Dutch health insurance law.
I know that VGZ took over the Universeel complete insurance policies from Univé at the time. Is it still possible to register for this insurance if the Dutch Health Insurance Act is terminated?
I am over 70 so other insurance is not an option for me.
Thank you in advance for any replies you may have.
Regards,
Matthew
I asked VGZ by email on 15 January 2019 for a friend of mine.
On January 17th this answer.
Entirely right! I have sent a message to our policy administration to ask if I can still take out the package (since it is no longer promoted on the website, it seems) and if your friend can switch to this package halfway through the year if it is due to emigration is. I'll let you know as soon as I hear from them!
Regards, Toon
This was the answer. on January 19, 2019
Hello Hans! I have received feedback from our policy administration, but unfortunately the Universal package is an insurance policy that we no longer offer. Anyone who has the package now can keep it, but it can no longer be closed again. So your friend will have to look further! Regards, Toon
PS. Everything can change, this was a question from me in January 2019.

I can't explain my correspondence with VGZ.16-01-2019 any better
Ir/Madam.
A 74-year-old friend, who is still insured in the Netherlands, intends to emigrate to Thailand.
Told him that I have had an insurance policy Universal Complete Abroad for years.
Is it possible for him to take out this health insurance with you?
BEST REGARDS
Hans

Hello Hans! I just looked for you and I see that we still offer the insurance in 2019, as evidenced by the conditions on our website: http://bit.ly/2HiwsN0. However, when I try to make a premium calculation based on the Universal Complete policy, it is nowhere to be seen. Do you have your customer number and date of birth for me? Then I will approach our policy administration via your details to find out the easiest way to take out this insurance! If that is not possible, your friend can of course always call us or send us a message. I'd like to hear it from you! Regards, Toon

Then go shopping internationally and start with the gentlemen of AA in Thailand; you will be spoken to in Dutch. You can find their details in this blog.
When I turned 70, my premium at VGZ went up by 120 euros per month to 520 euros! (2015)
A reason to take out another insurance policy.
That became:
April International Expat
http://www.april-international.fr
Premium in 2020: 434 euros per month: age 75 years (This is paid every 3 months)
This premium remains for life.
Aa insurance in hua hin or pattaya and nowadays also phuket
Most safe, remain registered in the Netherlands, keep your regular basic insurance and take out travel insurance with worldwide coverage (eg Unigarant).
With insurance in Thailand you have to watch out that they don't kick you out at a certain age, or that the premiums don't go crazy! Moreover, the insurance is only “Outpatient” and you still have to pay normal costs yourself. This also comes down to something with a Dutch insurance policy, but if you fill in a plane ticket for the small costs, you can do a lot here for that price!
At least this is my vision and have arranged it that way and have good experience.
Totally right!
Today I received my insurance policy for 2020 and my monthly premium is € 109. I get a 2% discount if I suddenly pay for a car. So on an annual basis I save € 3600. Also have a travel insurance of € 16 per quarter, so that I am sure that all costs are paid!
And from that difference I can book a return flight a few times a year.
So just stay resident in Ned!
Dear Cortie
The disadvantage is that you have to return to the Netherlands for 4 months every year
For someone who wants to live permanently in Thailand???
As suggested above. AA has taken out a policy for me (aged 72) with Pacific Cross.
Do you read carefully what Mattheu asks.
1) I know that VGZ took over the Universeel complete insurance policies from Univé at the time. Is it still possible to register for this insurance if the Dutch Health Insurance Act is terminated?
Please reply to the above,
And what he doesn't want.
2) I am over 70 so other insurances are not an option for me.
If he wanted another option, he would have asked that question too.
