Reader question: Buying a dog of the Thai Bangkaew breed
Dear readers,
I would like to buy a dog from the Thai Bangkaew breed. Unfortunately, there are few of them. They say especially in the North of Thailand. Are there readers who can help me with contacts?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Glass
Hello Klaas,
I assume you are looking in Thailand?
Bang-kaews are great dogs, but certainly not the easiest.
Know what you're getting into. A Google search, or a quick search on Facebook will give you dozens of hints from breeders. There are so many that it is impossible to give contacts here.
Originally it is indeed a Northern Thai breed, but they can really be found all over Thailand. They are also very often discarded. You can also find them in many dog shelters.
And if you search in the Netherlands (that is not really clear from your question), even in the Netherlands you can easily find breeders of this special breed.
Success!
Arjen.
Agree with Arjen and indeed great dogs and very good watchdogs.
An acquaintance has 1 and as soon as they know you they are super sweet with children.
Bit difficult character with patience and the right approach to learn the desired behavior.
I myself stick to my Mechelers.
Unfortunately I can't help you with breeders here in Thailand for the breed you requested.
Success with it
Regards,
Anthony
My eldest son in Changmai has such a dog. A beautiful beast with a very strong character. Bangkaews are not lap dogs, nor are they for walking or cuddling. They are watchdogs. They protect boss and yard. My son has such a dog because he has to work outside of Thailand many times a year. Dog is there for his (Thai) wife and children. My daughter-in-law knows how to pull up with the dog. That is, don't interfere too much.
Guy Roosens Pattaya has 9 puppies for sale 0826827324 .
I would get a dog from a shelter myself, but here are some addresses for Bangkaew puppies https://www.kamolchaibangkaew.com/puppy_album.php
We have a bangkaew ourselves and friends of ours even have 2, all 3 of which come from the same breeder. That breeder lives in the (wide) area of Udon Thani, in the north east of Thailand. We have raised our dog Western, just like the 2 of the friends, and then he is very protective for the owner and the family, but also sweet. The dog is only loose in our walled garden and is walked a bit on a leash. Thai people are often afraid of a bangkaew, but the owner's friends are not bothered by it !!!
I find the last sentence understandable as the owner of a ridgeback ashtray dog, but it remains a challenge with new visitors. Rather a character than cutting it off. In that regard, a dog is often a reflection of the caregiver 😉
We have two Bangkaew Dogs.
Strong character but special for their housemates!
I would NEVER take them home with an adult but a puppy! You can put them to your will with a consistent upbringing!
With us they roam freely in a large walled garden. Perfect watchers and guardians against unwanted intruders, by which I mean snakes and everything that crawls and flies.
Thai people are afraid of it.
Our visitors are safe. They learned social behavior as a puppy. Once they know you, they also come to enjoy the presence of the visitors.
To us they are treasures. The plague for intruders!
I would absolutely choose Bangkaew dogs again!
With us they live outside, have a dry sleeping place and only eat dry food. With 20 kg of dry food we need more than a month!
We love our two slobs!
The most important thing when choosing a dog is its characteristics.
Does the dog suit you and especially your pack?
That is much more important than the appearance.
A yard dog does not become a hunting dog.
A wayward dog does not become a servile dog!
Thanks for all the information. I think we are up to the challenge. From Timker I would like to get the telephone number or address of the breeder in Udon. Not too far from us.
