Home » Reader question » Reader question: How do I choose the right place for a hotel in Chiang Mai?
Dear readers,
I have a question. How to choose the right hotel in the right place for sightseeing in Chiang Mai?
I am planning my trip for April next year and am also planning to pass through Chiang Mai. Now I would like to visit both Bo sang Umbrella village and Wiam Kum Kam, but both are seriously apart. How do you find a suitable hotel in the middle of these 2 or do you choose one and look for other attractions in the city?
Wants to sleep well and at ease as well as be close to sights, but I want to see one of the 2 above anyway.
Thanks for your advice,
Ronald
Simply book a hotel in the center via the well-known booking sites. From Chiangmai you can easily take a tuk-tuk to Bo Sang for a modest price. Regarding Wiam Kum Kam -about 14 km from the center of Chiangmai- take a taxi. Center Chiangmai is simply the best solution.
In Chang Mai I would always take a hotel in the walled part of the city (cozy part)
Furthermore, outside the walled area there is a Bar called Ba Ba Bo Bo (stack crazy)
And take excursions from there.
If you can cycle well to the tigers, for example (it was a tough but fun bike ride)
Kind regards, Peter Yai
A very good location is near Thapae gate. There are dozens of hotels and guesthouses in the area. Very centrally located in terms of sights, all of which you can visit in Chiang Mai by bike. Even Bo Sang is within cycling distance or if you don't like cycling, rent a scooter for 200 Baht per day. Then you can go a little further to San Kampaeng and the hot springs. It's all as simple as pie.
Book a hotel in the center, there are many good hotels near the night market and some cheaper ones between the ramparts; with a taxi to Bo Sang and Wiang Kum Kam (I live a stone's throw from them myself) is very easy to do.
Rent a scooter but think about it carefully, traffic here is chaotic and driving on the left is something you are not used to. Much has been written about it in the Thailand blog and it is usually not recommended (motorcycle license / always at fault in an accident (farang) etc).
By the way… you can also easily and cheaply hire a taxi for a day.
Have fun in beautiful Chiang Mai and its surroundings.
A nice hotel is Hollanda Montry located on the ping river, they also have a tuktuk that can take you anywhere. Another hotel is Prince Hotel, located right in the center and has a nice swimming pool (when I'm in chiangmai, I always go there. All sights in and around the center are within walking distance of here. You don't have to discuss this hotel. always place.
