Dear readers,

We booked tickets with KLM in September 2019 for flights from Amsterdam to Bangkok on June 14 and June 20, 2020. The flight from June 14 has been moved by KLM to June 13.

As you know, Thailand is closed to commercial inbound flights until July 1, 2020. Contacted KLM via WhatsApp this afternoon: according to KLM, our flights will still depart at the scheduled time. I have requested an update of the flight details as Thailand does not allow tourists. We can now request vouchers, but these cannot be exchanged for money. The customer will only receive such a voucher for a flight canceled by KLM.

KLM's website indicates that no flights to Bangkok can be booked in June. KLM maintains that they cannot cancel confirmed flights and closes the chat with the answer that the flights will be operated in June.

Are there any readers of Thailandblog who have had such an experience with KLM? Is KLM trying to prevent customers from requesting a refund in this way?

Regards,

Martin

Prime Minister Rutte announced yesterday that code orange has still been issued for travel outside Europe until June 15. And also that when you come back you have to be quarantined for 14 days.
Please inform KLM of this and see what their reaction is.
I don't want a voucher either, but my money back has to wait a while because our date is a little further away.
According to European guidelines, you must also receive a refund.
But strange they fly to Bangkok 4 times a week I wanted to go to Canada but they only fly to Vancouver or Calgary and that is much too far away from my final destination where I also have to quarantine for 14 days. I wish you good luck and stand your ground.

    • Not right what you say. You MUST not be quarantined, it is advised.

      Travel outside Europe
Travel outside Europe is not recommended to limit the risks of a new outbreak. The travel advice for countries outside Europe and outside the Caribbean part of the Kingdom will therefore remain orange for the time being. That is to say: only go there if there really is no other option. If you do go and come back to the Netherlands, it is urgent advice to immediately go into quarantine at home for 2 weeks.

It is also a myth that you are not insured with code orange or red. This differs per travel insurer. With Alianz Global Assistance you are simply insured:

Make a quick phone call! KLM offers a lot of possibilities. We were allowed to change our flight from 18/6 without any costs and without additional payment of the fare difference until 30/11 (tickets must be purchased before April 2020). If you choose a voucher you get 15% extra, there is no better bank. They do fly, but this is shared cargo and repatriation. We also have no pleasant experiences with KLM via chat, but via telephone is always great!

Coincidentally, this week I moved a flight in June to April next year. In principle, this was free of charge, with the exception of the rate difference. In mid-April I also requested a voucher for another flight, but I have not received it yet, but I have received a confirmation. vernoI also noticed that KLM responds much slower via WhatsApp than via Messenger.

    Succes

In January I had a KLM ticket for a trip Bangkok-Amsterdam-Bangkok. Because I already knew in mid-February that the return trip was not possible for the time being, I canceled the trip. I was offered a voucher valid until January 31, 2021. I do wonder if I can have a trip within that time with the desired return to Thailand.

I had booked a total of 3 flights with KLM for Japan and Thailand (2x).
Converted the flight to Japan and 1 flight to Thailand into vouchers via the special website and booked 1 flight to Thailand to a later date.
Although I had to wait a long time for the vouchers, it all went very well and booking went smoothly.
That 15% extra value is correct, but then you have to exchange the voucher before October 31, so book a new flight and this flight must take place before June 15, 2021.

Hopefully that extra 15% will cover the difference with the new ticket price, in due course…..

        @Cornelis
actually that 15% should not be necessary, but just reasonableness from both sides. Voucher due to the circumstances , but with the same pricing conditions , so the same flight is guaranteed for the same price .

And it would then be to their credit to give a small concession such as seat selection, luggage + or the like, for example, does not cost them capital, and the customer is satisfied.

Because that 15% will have a snag somewhere under the tarmac, a nice sop in the meantime after they have caught a bone at Europe to adjust the rules in their favor.

Understand that it is difficult , but for both sides , and not just for the side with state aid in case of dire need !

I have a strong suspicion that this is a commercial trick to hope to get the customer to cancel themselves and thus be able to deliver a voucher that cannot be converted into money. Best to keep your leg stiff and let them cancel the flight, then you have 2 options with the voucher, money or another flight later with this voucher.

They apparently hope that you will cancel yourself, and of course they will do this as late as legally possible.

But you can be assured that you cannot go to Thailand yet, they just hope for your patience and hope that as soon as Thailand gives the green light, they will have full flights as quickly as possible.

Just economic commercial tactical move of their .

I've been waiting for a KLM voucher since mid-April. When I send them a message, I get drud busy as an answer, I should understand that

I have been waiting since March 28 for a voucher for my Thai girlfriend's return flight.
Whatsapp from KLM is not your thing.
Already approached 2x, because she has received a visa extension until July 16, so I have to have it changed again.
    KLM still does not respond.
Don't feel like getting into trouble with the IND.

  9. Christina says up

Hello, Respond to KLM again that you do not have a voucher yet or that you will receive a commitment. Otherwise it is difficult to prove that you would receive a voucher.

In principle, and the minister finally announced that vouchers are in violation of European rules. But why not a voucher, that is attractive for KLM and of course also for the client, only you don't know what the new rates will do.
In June tickets in my app KLM frequent flyer for 3800 eu ….
    Bit much.

My flight from 31-03-2020 from Suriname to the Netherlands has been canceled up to 3 times (31-03/03-05/03-06-2020) with a lot of luck and help from friends I was able to take a repatriation flight with my daughter from SLM, and €1300 for new tickets departing for the Netherlands on April 21. Requested to rebook to SLM, was not allowed. First we could apply for vouchers and after 12 months money back. After the news from Brussels that everyone whose flights have been canceled has the right to ask for the price of the tickets back. I did that right away. I immediately receive an app from KLM, from May 15 KLM has a new policy regarding refunds and only canceled flights from May 15 and after May 15 can request a refund for canceled flights. Immediately after that I received an app that my ticket is non-refundable. Then bag your pants a little. KLM has it so with the rights of the passengers. Because the Bonus must be paid out. I have now called in my legal assistance insurance to get my money back.
So KLM really doesn't like its customers!

This morning an email from KLM flight July 20 canceled because I had bought these tickets at Expedia I had to be there and for the suitcases at KLM. It took some time but received confirmation from Expedia and KLM that all the money will be refunded to my credit card. Might take a while but I understand it's thick. This was for flights after May 15, 2020. Phone super busy email not to be found but it was worth spending 5 hours on this.

Since KLM cannot be reached by telephone on 5 and 6 June (after a lengthy selection menu, it is reported that the waiting time is more than 30 minutes and the connection is broken) and also does not respond via WhatsApp, it was decided to request the vouchers. Our preference was to choose a new flight for our existing booking, but that is not possible on the website.
Has KLM's management ever considered using the unemployed cabin crew for customer service? We feel insulted by KLM and will choose another airline after the next mandatory booking.
