Home » Reader question » Reader question: How much does an inguinal hernia operation cost in Thailand?
Dear readers,
I have a bored inguinal hernia that I will probably need surgery on. Are there any readers who have performed this in Thailand? And if so, in which hospital?
Negative and positive answers are welcome, as well as information about the amount of the bill paid.
Thanks.
Regards,
Patrick
inquire via the website of Bangkok Hospital Pattaya Dr. Cherdchai
Best just ask for quotes from different hospitals. Is quite common.
In Pattaya Bangkonk Hospital will charge the most .. Good is also Pattaya Inrenational hospital
costs about 70% lower
And how much is this in the Pattaya International Hospital with that 70% lower?
I had my groin hernia repaired. In Belgium. I had to pay most of it myself. It was a few hundred euros or so. Not really expensive. I wouldn't have it done in Thailand for that money.
Queen Sirikit Hospital in Sattahip.
Cost about 3 years ago 24.000 Bath.
Perfect operation and no problems.
I had two inguinal hernia operations at Hua Hin Hospital (State Hospital). Both times just over 20.000 baht, the second time a net was placed. The first time no discomfort or pain at all, the second time some (minor) pain in the first week after the operation.
Thailand is slightly larger than the village of Pattaya. Perhaps Patrick can indicate where he lives so that specific advice can be given regarding a hospital in his area.
Dear Patrick,
Most medical specialists in a private hospital in Thailand also work for a large and well-known state hospital.
In both hospitals, these doctors give the same treatment, with the difference that you have to pay blue in a private hospital.
So why not have it operated in a large state hospital.
At Bangkok Hospital Pattaya in early 2015, Dr. Pornchai Limudomporn, inguinal hernia operation, including heart check, x-ray, medicines, consultations, follow-up, use of best quality mat, surgeon costs, operating room costs, aids, local anesthesia, in short all in 67.000 Thb.
Operation duration 20 minutes, preparation and settlement 40 minutes, so was outside again after 1 hour. Opted for local anesthesia, the only drawback is that you have to be able to handle the fact that the doctor inserts a somewhat longer injection needle for the local anesthetic, which could be a bit painful, but I have not noticed it; so I didn't have to stay in the hospital for a few days. If you opt for total anesthesia, an anesthetist is required and the costs will rise to 150.000 THB.
No pain afterwards and still not, condition before the operation is fine, after the operation slowly build up heavy work in 3 months. Still no pain despite heavy work again.
Overall successful operation. Also read that people have long-term or eternal pain, quality is important, also read that people have the operation performed in a state hospital for 30-40.000 Thb. and have good results.
Good luck with it, there is nothing to fear, very operable.

Private hospital in Lampang: “Ram” hospital. Paid by insurance. Two months ago, a unilateral inguinal hernia neatly repaired for the price of 69.650,00 Thai Bath. The intake and follow-up check are also paid for by the insurance.
Insurance from AA insurance based in Hua Hin and Pattaya where all my insurances run to my full satisfaction.
