Dear readers,

Who knows how/if you get a copy of someone who died in Thailand from the death register if you are not related?

Thank you in advance.

Yours faithfully,

Peter Yai

It is best to go to a Thai lawyer who is also a 'Certified Notary Public', because he usually has broad experience in this field. Of course it is also best to do this in the province where the deceased was registered; that is by no means always the province where the deceased lived, by the way. You will have to demonstrate why you need this information.

It depends on how long it has been since the person died. I myself have helped several times with the death of a Dutch acquaintance. And then it is not difficult to get a copy. If you know the partner of that person, you can just ask them. Otherwise you can go to the amphor and say you need a copy for immigration.
