Driving license test: Where in Thailand can you find a doctor with a BIG registration?
Dear readers,
My Dutch driver's license expires in August. I am 76 years old. Have applied for an extension via RDW and this has been sent to a contact address in the Netherlands. In April/May this year I was in the Netherlands and had to buy and complete a health declaration form there because I am older than 75. Completed and sent this document to the CBR and now (June) I receive a message that I must be examined by a doctor who has a Dutch BIG registration.
Does anyone have experience with this and or does anyone know a doctor in Thailand who has this registration to have me examined? It now looks like I have to go back to the Netherlands to be examined by a doctor in possession of the BIG registration.
Thanks in advance for the responses.
Regards,
French
Hi French,
If you are older than 75 and you want to renew your Dutch driver's license, you must have it examined in the Netherlands by a doctor who is authorized to do so. CANNOT in Thailand.
Unfortunately it is no different.
Hans says.
I also have to renew my driving license in August 2020, I am 77 years old.
Going to find out now.
https://www.cbr.nl/nl/rijbewijs-houden/nl/gezondheidsverklaring.htm
That's why I'm going to call the RDW in December, whether it will take that long, if I have sent all forms to the RDW after the inspection.
This is because I have to plan my flight and time, how long I have to stay in the Netherlands
I also saw the questionnaire.
Unfortunately, I have to answer question 9 B

Have also been looking for the addresses of the medical examiners.

If anyone would like to know more please.
Any information is welcome
Hans
TH has no NL-BIG registration. Report your situation to the RDW and ask for the possibility of an inspection when you return to NL in due course (family visit, holiday, etc.). If you do not come back, the inspection is pointless.
There are Dutch doctors in Thailand who have a BIG registration. For example, Dutch doctors who enjoy their pension but still renew a registration.
I believe you can renew an expired driver's license for a year. If that is correct, you could simply wait with the inspection until you are in the Netherlands. If you are not in the Netherlands, you do not need your driver's license there, so whether it has expired or not is not a problem. The only problem could be that there may be so much time between applying for and obtaining that your driver's license has now expired for more than a year. Unfortunately, it has now become apparent that the RDW is so badly organized that very serious backlogs have arisen, so delays have arisen in the processing of applications. So bad that some people in the Netherlands temporarily do not have a driving license due to this bad situation at the RDW. Has expired and STILL in treatment at the RDW!
Dear sir,
As a reader of the blog, I can advise you.
Mail me and you will hear from me .

Response from other French:
Had the same thing happen recently.
As far as I know, it may also be a doctor residing abroad, provided that he has the DUTCH BIG registration (and can perform the examination).
If this doctor fully approves you, you must send this report and this will be checked again at the CBR by a doctor and you will receive a message of “No Objection”. The official wording is slightly different.
If it is necessary in this process that you are referred to a specialist, this will have to be done in the Netherlands.
It is advisable to start with an eye test at a good optician for possible far vision glasses.
It can become a lengthy affair, keep that in mind.
It's a big chaos at the CBR. I am 84 years old, my driver's license has to be renewed in mid-November. On the advice of my doctor I started this on March 4th. Only last week I received a 5-page examination report to be completed by my medical examiner. I sent this report to the CBR by registered mail after the inspection. Last Friday I was informed by telephone that the report dated 14 June 19 had been received. I can expect a final decision about my driving license within 14 (nineteen) weeks after 9 June. If I have to undergo an extra examination by a specialist, I will be happy if this can be completed within XNUMX months.
A friend of mine recently had to be re-examined by the UWV..
Received a message via Embassy and had to report to a hospital in Bangkok .. You could ask CBR if that could also be done for you ..
I live in Thailand, sometimes I am in the Netherlands for a week. Got my Ned. driver's license expired. I just rent a car at the airport, they accept my Thai driver's license there. Can also be done without an Int driver's license, as all information is clearly stated.
text from RDW about driving in the Netherlands with a foreign (non-EEC) driving license.
So Applies to driver's license and resident from outside the EEC!!
Temporary stay in the Netherlands with a foreign driver's license
Are you temporarily in the Netherlands and do you participate in traffic? For example for work or during your holiday? Then you must have a valid foreign driving licence.
Somewhere further on in the text it says that if you go to live in the Netherlands you can drive for 185 days with the foreign driving license. After that you must have a Dutch driver's license
It seems that you can drive in the Netherlands with a Thai driver's license.
I don't know how long this period is. (3 months or 6 months)
Possibly a solution for the elderly, who only temporarily go to the Netherlands?
Not an answer to your question, but still: If you mainly stay in Thailand, wouldn't it make more sense to apply for a Thai driver's license?
Hi Frans, if you are older than 75 and have deregistered from the Netherlands, you can simply apply for a new driving license via the CBR.
You can then have yourself examined by a foreign doctor.
My father also did it that way, please note that you must be deregistered from the Netherlands.
Best, you can just call the CBR yourself and they can explain everything to you.
Success.
I am still BIG registered but have no experience with driving license chains. But I don't think that's necessary. I am now in NL but back in BKK on July 3.
Chains = inspections.
Hans says.
Hello Dick.
A question.
I myself have to undergo a medical examination next July for my driver's license, I am 77 years old.
Would you like to get in touch with me?
This is in connection with the medical examination.
My email address is.

Hans says.
In response to my question to Dick, I did receive an email from him.
Both he and I weren't sure, despite being BIG registered, if he was allowed to do that here in Thailand.
So today I called the CBR.
Got the answer, even after asking her colleagues, that it's no problem.
Provided that he is Dutch, with a Dutch BIG registration, where he lives does not matter.
I also asked that he has no experience with driving license tests.
Not a problem if registered BIG.
So do it this year, when I have all my documents from the CBR.
Saves me time, that I can arrange it here and don't have to be in the Netherlands for months next year.
Hans
