Dear readers,

On our recommendation, friends of ours are going to Thailand on February 7th. They will stay in Bangkok for one week at the President Solitaire hotel, Sukhumvit soi 11.

We have seen that the protesters are both left and right of Sukhumvit Soi 11. We cannot now determine from Spain whether those demonstrators are still there or intend to stay.

Could you tell me whether it is reasonably safe to stay at the President Solitaire hotel or do you recommend taking another hotel? Thank you in advance for the effort.

Best regards,

Corry

The Sukhumvit-Asok intersection is a protest location. Virtually extinct during the day, a cozy 'outdoor cinema' in the evening. Asok is soi 23. In soi 11 you will not be bothered by anything. Nana BTS station is within walking distance from the hotel.

I know the hotel well. Location is excellent, about 200 meters from Sukhumvit. Excellent place to stay. The lobby is certainly impressive.

We will soon arrive at hotel grande center point terminal 21 which I believe is located in the same zone. Does this mean we shouldn't leave the hotel at night? What time do the protests start? Or is it wiser to rebook the hotel?

@ Chantal If I see correctly on the map, the hotel is located just outside the protest area on Sukhumvit. During the day it is deserted, towards the end of the afternoon the Asoke-Montri Road, which is perpendicular to Sukhumvit, starts to fill up. The atmosphere is relaxed. On the stage, which is located at the crossroads, speakers speak and bands perform. The only annoying thing is the whistle of the audience. Rebooking the hotel seems unnecessary to me. Asok BTS station is also easy to reach from your side: take the stairs and cross the pedestrian bridge to the entrance. Possibly walk to Sukhumvit MRT station (underground)
