Dear readers,

I have a flow water heater for showering: an EVE WH 3500 1. When I press the test button here, the trip light comes on. Is this normal?

To make everything work again I first have to turn off the power.

Regards,

Marcel

There is a black block at the bottom, you have to push this up then the device is switched on again.

What Laksi says. It is more important to make sure that the heating device is connected to earth. You wouldn't be the first to be electrocuted in the shower in Thailand.

I looked but there is no button to turn the device back on.
    The device is grounded.
There is a reset button on it.
So I hit the test button.
Then the trip light comes on.
    Then reset and nothing happens.
Have to switch off the power first, then everything works again.

I would put the boiler behind a separate earth leakage circuit breaker outside the bathroom.
I personally don't like electronic ground faults.
I prefer two electrical contacts that break the connection mechanically.

And twice an earth leakage (1 time outside the bathroom and 1 time in the boiler) is in any case safer than just an earth leakage in the boiler.
If water creates a connection between the shower head and the phase wire, which is still before the earth leakage in the boiler, then the earth leakage in the boiler will not help, even if the boiler switches off.
The phase wire will then continue to hold voltage.

A breaker can help or not?
