Dear readers,

I read on Thailandblog that Sandbox destinations are being added such as Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, Krabi and Phang-Nga. But how do you get there if you have to fly directly there? Koh Phangan and Koh Tao don't even have an airport.

does anyone know?

Regards,

Simon

    Dear Simon,

I also have that question and for now there is no answer yet, but I hope this will follow soon: see this link below from “TATnews”.

    https://www.tatnews.org/2022/01/thailand-reopening-living-in-the-blue-zone-17-sandbox-destinations/

    It says en:

    Points of entry

By air at Phuket International Airport. *For Krabi, Phang-Nga, and Surat Thani (Ko Samui, Ko Pha-ngan, and Ko Tao), we will provide an update as soon as the official information is available.

So I'd say wait a bit longer and keep my fingers crossed for quick publication.

On Koh Samui there are 2 flights per day that depart from Bangkok. However, it must be booked together, so Bangkok in transit.

what do you mean booked together — that the flight to Samui and back must also be booked in Belgium

It must be one ticket, so no separate bookings.

Last time, November, you had to go to Phangnga and Krabi via Phuket international and then continue with a Sha+ taxi.
It might be on the embassy's site tomorrow.

It seems that there is only a limited sandbox for Krabi, only with Raily. Hope this will be expanded soon. To get there you always have to have a transfer in Bangkok. Nice that this will soon be possible. Can you take boat trips during the sandbox, for example? Planning to go to Thailand for the first time in April.

koh samui is sandbox. The airport is very small in contrast to Phuket. It is owned by Bangkok Airways, which explicitly abuses its monopoly position when setting prices. In high season, the Bangkok Samui flight often costs twice or more as much as a Bangkok Phuket flight. I think only Bangkok Airways flies to Koh Samui. On the one hand because Bangkok Airways does not allow other airlines (Nok Air, Vietair, etc.) to Samui and on the other hand because no large aircraft can land on Koh Samui. So it is not possible to fly in from far abroad. I therefore think that the sandbox for Samui will NOT work. require people to fly into Samui from outside Thailand. Probably a fixed combination of flight to Bangkok and from there to Samui. Wondering whether the high prices for single flights to Bangkok Samui or vice versa will be included in the all-in flight price. Then you would see very significant price differences between flights from abroad to Phuket and from abroad to Samui.!

Samui airport is almost exclusively used for flights to and from Bangkok.
      Almost is not always….
Also once a day to and from Phuket and once Pattaya (U-Tapao).
      All domestic flights, but…
Also once a day to and from Singapore. Flight number: PG961 and PG962.
Amsterdam – Singapore and Singapore – Samui, should be possible.

mistake me, indeed also flights pattaya to samui BUT AGAIN: bangkok air. Also phuket samui is bangkok air. To and from Singapore is a different story. Should bangkok air allow other airline. Probably, but let's not speculate. Soon we will know.

Samui airport is owned by Bangkok Airways. Therefore think that you will not see any other domestic companies because why should they give up their monopoly. Singapore Airlines will pay a good compensation for being allowed to fly to Samui.

Late announcement. Found a notice on Facebook about entering Thailand. Samui: entry flying from Europe or Asia via Bangkok but mandatory from Bangkok to Samui flight pg 5151 or pg 5125 or pg 5171. Booking must be a single booking in which the flight from Europe or Asia AND the flight Bangkok to Samui are booked.
As an aside: did not see a sender on the official-looking announcement.

That's right, it should be one booking. So now I have tickets from Amsterdam to Bangkok (via Zurich), and Swiss will make it difficult to add a flight from Bangkok to Koh Samui.
According to an employee, I must first cancel my ticket and then book a new ticket from Amsterdam to Koh Samui. Now it comes ...... Can't make a new booking because there are no more places available??
Anyone with similar problems or a solution?

    Recognizable Michel,

Also booked swiss air via Zurich to bkk. Changing destination to Phuket or Samui is difficult. Also be willing to pay extra. But not possible.
Also booked a light ticket. So no refund. Unfortunately….
The only option for us is to move the booking to a later time.
Can happily see it as a luxury problem (for me)
Or hope that Bangkok turns into a sandbox. Chances don't seem great to me.
Also special that you can not take transit in Bangkok and in other countries. I do not understand!

    Dear Arnold,

Booked a flight from Brussels to Phuket on 26/01/2022 via booking.com.
Route : Brussels Zurich and then booked a flight to Phuket with “daughter” of Swiss Air which calls Edelweiss Air : see below

    Wed 26 Jan · 13:45
    ZRH Zurich Airport
    Thu 27 Jan · 06:50
    HKT Phuket
    Terminal I
    Swiss Operated by Edelweiss Air
    Flight LX8050
    .
    economy
Flight time 11 hours 05 minutes.

I don't know if this is possible for you to change your route or departure day, but maybe this can help.
