Home » Reader question » Reader question: How can I find out the history of an Alfa Romeo css from 1954
Dear readers,
I own a 1954 Alfa Romeo css and according to Alfa Romeo records this car was sold new in 1954 to Bunnag V in Thailand. To document the history of the car, I try to trace who it was, but I can't find it on the internet.
The story with the car is that King Bhumibol was the first owner but I have sent letters to the Royal Palace but have not received any reply.
Does anyone know anything about this, can find out? Would be very nice.
Yours faithfully,
Willem
Dear,
If ZKM Bhumminbol was the first buyer, why doesn't Alfa confirm it?
There is undoubtedly a maintenance history that must at least refer to the Royal Palace. As long as that is not confirmed, anyone can say without any proof that it is the king's car and sell it that way.
The Bunnag family can at least be said to be an ancient and widespread lineage: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bunnag
You will undoubtedly find people with the family name Bunnag, but whether they are related to that first buyer? The link above says that the Bunnag family has long been part of the disciples of the royal family.
You can speculate and suspect that the car once belonged to a Thai King, but that is not possible without proof. Anyway, the car belonged to a certain Bunnag. And that family name is linked to the royal family. Whether Bunnag V was also linked to the Royal House and especially King Bhummibol?
Joost should know.
Hello Arkom,
Thank you for your response
you hit the nail on the head
The only thing that the Alfa Romeo archive has is that the car was actually delivered new in 1954 to Bunnag V in Thailand.
they have no more information
oh well, let's say Italian administration
I'm interested in confirming the Bhumminbol story or making sure it's nonsense
and try to find the original owner
At that time it was an expensive car so the buyer must have been wealthy

The Bunnag family has had a lot of influence in Thailand for 350 years. So they can call themselves an alpha
bekostigen.here a link to the website of the Bunnag dynasty.maybe they can help you further.

One car madman can answer more questions than ten wise men can answer, it occurred to me.
But that won't get us any further.
I don't have an answer with bite-sized chunks, but I do know that one Peter B. Bunnag was chairman (and I think even founder) of the Ferrari Club Thailand. I don't know if this club still exists and it is probably not the same as the Ferrari Owner's Club Thailand.
Via the link a photo of his (old) business card.
Maybe you can do something with it.

Dear French,
thank you
I'm going to send this gentleman a message, who knows...
Mr William,
An Oldtimer enthusiast myself.. Am I in contact with someone who knows several members of the (extensive) Bunnag fam.. and may be able to trace the owner of your special Alfa..
Incidentally, HRH King Bhumipol drove around in a simple Fiat Topolino..according to my info..
Best regards.
Dear Marc,
If you could make contact for me I would really appreciate it
if that is not possible for privacy reasons, it can also be done via you if you would like to do so
maybe useful to exchange some info directly
