Did I pay too much for 10 truckloads of garden soil?
Dear readers,
I want to renovate my garden. It is a piece of 400 square meters. The garden is a bit low and with a lot of rain there is always a lot of water. Now I have had about 120 m3 of soil brought into the garden. This was realized in two days, namely 10 trucks with (red) soil of a good quality for the garden, about 30% clay.
A shovel has also been rented for these two days, which has evenly distributed the soil over the garden. The shovel has been present for about 10 hours. The earth came from nearby so the truck didn't have to drive long
Now comes my question. I paid THB 21.000 for this. I think I'm screwed, but for the same case is this a normal price? Who can give me a sensible answer to this?
I'm screwed, but then I'm sure if it's a normal going rate?
thanks in advance
Regards,
Bram
Editors: Do you have a question for the readers of Thailandblog? Use it contact form..
50 euros per load and not counting the crane is still a bargain.
Crane 10 o'clock and trucks don't run on water.
Most commenters talk about a price per freight, truck, truck, load, etc. However, that says almost nothing about the price per unit volume, because there is a huge variation in the payload of trucks. Surely you buy a certain volume of land in this case to raise the land?
To those responders, therefore, my request to at least also state the volume per freight, lorry, truck, cargo, etc., so that the price per volume unit is known.
And they don't say true either.
In the meantime, one should know that prices can vary per region. Even within regions.
“Here” could just be 700 Km from “with us”…
Questioners and responders are generally not generous with good information.
Sometimes it is necessary for a correct answer to say whether you are Dutch or Belgian or otherwise. Or in which country you live, province and region, but sometimes there is nothing or Ban Khaikai and that can be anywhere. Sometimes it says 'soi Sukhumwit', also in this blog, as if there aren't at least two Sukhumwits in Thailand. Still others assume that Thailand is no bigger than a street in Pattaya…..
But it keeps the blog alive. I like it, discussions that talk past each other. At the end of the day, we all work together on the best free information medium about Thailand in the Dutch/Flemish language!
Lively ? Talking past each other or just shouting?
At the end of the song, the questioner often still knows as much as before.
Doesn't help anyone.
Dag,
With us in Isaan, the price was 350 to 400 baht per truck load about a year ago. At the time, due to Covid and because a major job was starting in the area, we could get a special discount price for 250 baht per truck.
For this price it was only driven in and tipped empty, everything arranged by my love with myself out of the picture.
Prices are now considerably higher and don't think you can find anything for less than 500 per load.
For those who (want to) build gravel, this now costs approximately 1000 baht per load
Ps this concerned soil not garden soil
Pebble 1000 baht per charge.?
Last week 2 loads for 1400.
Depends on where you live, I think, bought 2 cubic meters of gravel here in Korat 18 weeks ago for 600 baht per cubic meter.
A few months ago, 80 trucks of soil for 500 baht per truck, including leveling. No idea how much is in 1 car, I estimate 7/8 cubic meters.
ps, garden soil I had 2 trucks a few months ago 7/8 cubic meters per car and a 600 baht per car.
I wouldn't worry about it, because you have already spent the money, and your garden is now in order.
Furthermore, there are of course variables in the price that are not known, so that no sensible word can be said about the price.
For example, where did that earth come from, or how many kilometers was it transported, fuel prices have also risen in Thailand.
And the machines used to load the trucks and work your land also use fuel and require maintenance – regardless of whether they were ever purchased.
There is also the price of the clay you bought.
And at the end of the day, the company that put your garden in order also wants to earn some money.
You spent 175 Baht per cubic meter of soil in your garden.
That doesn't really sound screwed to me.
Sewn how? You have had 10 trucks deliver good quality garden soil. It took a shovel 10 hours to divide 120 m3 over 400 m2. That cost you less than $600. You agreed to the price yourself, I assume. Arranged in advance, right? Who screwed whom?
In our area a price of 350 to 400 thb per truck. This includes a tractor to move the soil………So do the math.
If your information is correct, you are indeed screwed. It's already too late, because you've already paid of course, so you agreed.
Good soil costs, I also have red soil with some clay here, between 700-1000 baht per truck.
I rented a mini crane and a tractor. The crane costs 900 baht per hour and the tractor 400 baht.
A wheel loader is roughly in the same price category as a mini crane.
So do the math.
There are some comments here that don't make any sense and I don't even think they are well informed.
Soon I will need a number of trucks with sand and coarsely ground stones to raise the entrance a bit and then pour concrete.
For this land I pay 800 baht and the price for the crane and the tractor as indicated earlier.
Next time let your girlfriend or wife ask around, if you need land again.
Then you know the price and you don't have to pay anything extra.
Ground 10 trucks = 8.000 Baht.
Rent tap 10 hours = 9.000 Baht.
Rent tractor 10 hours = 4.000 Baht
Total 21.000 Baht
And if you only rented the equipment, you've had to do the work yourself.
I don't see how you are cheaper than Bram.
And as said, it also depends on how far that soil has to be transported.
Time (and fuel) are money.
If your numbers are correct, I don't think you're screwed Bram.
According to my girlfriend it was even cheap. She mentions a price of ฿ 250 per truck with 1-1½ m³ loading capacity for a distance of several kilometers.
I think the price of the land is mainly determined by the distance it has to be moved.
I once understood that the land is excavated free of charge for the landowner - for example to build a (fish) pond - and the purchaser of the land who pays for labour, transport and equipment use.
Soil weighs between 1600 kilos (dry) and 2000 kilos (wet). That truck(s) must therefore have had a load capacity of 120 ÷ 10 = 12 m³ = 19,2 – 24,0 tons, with which a surface of 400 m² was raised by 30 cm. Oversized truck(s) that you mainly find at the large contractors.
Assuming the shovel cost ฿ 1500 per day, you paid ฿ 18.000 ÷ 12 = 1500 ฿/truck = 150 ฿/m³ of soil.
I think if you had gotten real garden soil (dark) you would have lost a lot more.
The conclusion is up to you.
Oops, correction:
฿ 18.000 ÷ 10 trucks = 1800 ฿/truck
฿ 18.000 ÷ 120 m³ = 150 ฿/m³
Here in the Sakon Nakhon area I pay 500 tbh for a truck load (a truck that is common for sand loads) of red soil. I pay 50 TBH per truck load for spreading the soil. However, I do not know exactly how many cubic meters such a truck loads. Here, orders are simply made per truck, not per cubic meter. You can calculate for yourself whether you are 'screwed'.
Normally I assume that you have agreed to this price for this garden soil delivery.
Because you may not have done this, are you now going to seek reassurance from us that the price was actually not too bad, or do you want to hear your suspicion that it was too expensive, and continue to worry?
The garden soil is of good quality according to you, and with that the trade is simply closed, right?
Suppose we are all going to write that you, as you already suspected, that you are actually screwed.
Will you get even more sleepless nights, or will you look for a Thai consumer body where you can file a complaint?
I doubt the point of this post card, throw sand over it, or if you like garden soil, enjoy your garden, and if you hear it was too expensive, take it as a lesson.
I wouldn't be happy in my life if I started to inquire and worry about exactly where I might have been screwed everywhere, and I'm certainly not the only one with that.555
Just had 3 trucks with black clay soil delivered to my girlfriend's vegetable garden, 1 truck was 650 bath and because no machine could be used, 5100 bath for this sand to put in place and to level it a bit .... 5100 bath not so cheap, but I didn't want to do it myself, is not loose normal sand right with us ....
I did the exact calculation for you: you paid 1293 baht too much!
What are you worrying sewn or not it is smarter to arrange your affairs well in advance all answers here are in vain, whatever you have paid.
