Dear readers,

Since November 23, I have been separated from my Thai wife after 11 years of marriage. I have the papers that I am divorced. In Thai and English (Regstration of Divorce and Certificate of Divorce). Now my marriage is also registered in the Netherlands. Can you tell me how to handle this?

I called the municipality of The Hague, and after much wandering I received a meaningless link on my email. Which didn't make much sense to me.

Please advise on this.

Regards,

Hans

Drop that meaningless link here if you want.
Because in principle Landelijk Taken also registers a foreign divorce. Possibly simultaneously with a foreign marriage, if that deed had not already been converted into a Dutch deed.

In my opinion, it is sufficient to have the Thai documents in your possession translated into Dutch and then submit them to your municipality for registration there.
They will therefore immediately adjust your marital status in their registers and in your file.

Where did you get married, NL or TH or both, so where was the marriage initially registered
This is important to indicate where you must register the divorce (at least or also).

The fact that you called The Hague tells me that you live in Thailand. The municipality of The Hague maintains the RNI register. You can only change your address online. Changing a number of personal details takes place via a physical visit to one of the counters in the Netherlands. See: https://www.denhaag.nl/nl/akten-en-verklaringen/basisregistratie-personen-brp/adres-of-persoonsgegevens-registratie-niet-ingezetenen-rni-wijzigen.htm Marriage, divorce, children are matters that you should deal with with those authorities that have an interest in your changing your living situation. So you report your divorce to the SVB in case of an AOW benefit, and to your pension provider in connection with current or later pension payments. You cannot inform a municipality in the Netherlands because you are no longer registered in a BRP. You do that again if you ever plan to return to the Netherlands. You inform the Tax and Customs Administration of your divorce when you file a 2022 tax return. It is best to discuss which documents to provide with the relevant authorities. You will still have to legalize your Thai municipal divorce papers through the Embassy in Bangkok.
