Home » Reader question » Experience in Thailand with internet via pocket wifi or sim card
Dear readers,
Does anyone know of unlimited internet (no limit) via SIM card at a decent speed? I have had unlimited internet from True Move when buying a new SIM card (3 month no limit), but the unlimited internet cannot be extended. So I fall back on the normal packages that are offered, these are not sufficient because after a few GB I fall back on a very slow download speed.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem? A provider that offers unlimited internet at a decent speed?
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Philippe (Belgium)
Dear Philippe,
Unfortunately, the provider does advertise unlimited, but all sims have a limited amount of GB per month.
You only get truly unlimited internet with wired internet. For example, I have 3BB fiber 100mb down and upload speed for 600 baht per month.
The disadvantage is that you have to take out a subscription for at least one year with a penalty clause for early departure.
Incorrect information, Eddy! AIS does indeed have unlimited internet on the mobile phone! 920 Baht per month. And it works even better than True cable.
Dear Philippe,
I travel to Thailand 3 times a year and each time for 1 month.
I have had a SIM card from Dtac for years and I am very satisfied with it.
For the last 3 years I have been buying a month of unlimited internet with a decent speed upon arrival at the airport.
So I use my smartphone as a hotspot for my laptop, and I also regularly watch Netflix via an HDMI cable without any problems. I pay the nice sum of 799 bath for a month.
I hope I helped you a little further with this.
Kind regards
Daniel
True has an unlimited SIM card for one year. So unlimited data usage.
Costs 1799 baht.
Available in mbk.
Furthermore, every provider has a reasonable data bundle.
I use dtac. 58 GB per month and 1000 minutes for 749 baht per month. If you get over that, you can buy more cheaply. You carry over any remaining MB to the next month
Purchasing MIFI from AIS, really great. 2 laptops plus 4 phones at the same time and just watch football without interruptions.
Dear Philippe
I have been using a CAT post-paid SIM card in a pocket WiFi for 8 years. 8 years ago we didn't have internet in the village yet, so this was the only solution (via a 10 m high GSM antenna). Until 4 years ago I could use this up to 5 GB per month, for the same monthly amount of 650 Bath I was upgraded to unlimited usage 4 years ago. (I am already at 12GB for this month). We now have fiber internet, but I keep my pocket WiFi for example. Wi-Fi in the car, in hotels with limited internet, etc. Why not a data SIM card in my phone, I hear some people asking? With 1 pocket WiFi, acquaintances (in the car or hotel) can use the internet for free, and via an old smartphone, connected to the car audio, I listen to Belgian stations while driving. More information about CAT: http://www.mybycat.com/en/
FYI, CAT manages all cable and internet in Thailand, TOT, AIS, True, etc. are their customers, but you can also go there as a private person.
I have been using a MIFI from TP-LINK (4G / LTE) with a data card from DTac for some time now, to my complete satisfaction. Bought in Belgium during a holiday at Mediamarkt and a data card from Viking. In Thailand, this device is for sale at Banana. DTac has an extensive package of data cards from 1,5 GB to unlimited. Always had a strong signal with no interruptions.
AIS has unlimited internet bundles with 8GB speed for 599.- TB for 30 days, after that you will have to purchase the same one again.
Dtac has a data bundle of 799 GB for 58. And 1000 minutes..
Ais is one of the more expensive for bundles.
AIS 599 bath unlimited, I think is cheaper than 799 for 58 GB. I use TP-LINK FD66 4G.
10 telephones can simultaneously use the WiFi channel. Here we regularly have 3 phones and 2 laptops at the same time and then you can still watch football without any glitches. You can also call via WiFi.
Last year I bought a True data SIM card from Lazada for 1499 unlimited for 1 year.
Worked at an average speed of 4,5 mb/ps. Perfect. Even here in the mountains, always connected.
This expired 2 weeks ago. So I bought a new one again from Lazada but it now cost 1680 baht. But also works perfectly. You can't make calls with it, so you need a phone with space for 2 SIMs
Thanks everyone for the info
I will try again tomorrow to go through all the providers in pattaya with the information you have given, then I can safely leave for the interior.
Regards Philippe
Day Cees 1
Do I understand correctly?
Can you buy a SIM card for 1680 THB that gives one year of internet access?
Isn't that much, much cheaper than, say, buying 690 THB for 30 days of unlimited TRUE at the airport?
An external mifi is actually a superfluous item, most smartphones can serve as a hotspot. Multiple contact options. And you can also secure it.
The iPhones also have these options.
With a large family, MiFi is easy because you leave it at home when you go out.
I use AIS for my mobile phone. Every 30 days I take my mobile phone to AIS or Telewiz and buy UNLIMITED internet with 920 mbps for 6 Baht per month. (Until February this was only 599, but that has now become more expensive). That internet is so good that I can even watch TV via my hotspot via my Eurotv. True's cable internet was not good enough to receive all my channels, so the 6 mbps of AIS is even stronger than the True cable! If that isn't "nice"...
I had also had the AIS unlimited packages mentioned. But last April I was suddenly confronted with the new limited packages. Other providers also offered no solace.
I got the impression that the unlimited packages are no longer available for prepaid.
