Home » Reader question » Reader question: Does a one-way ticket to Thailand cause problems?
Dear readers,
In November I will leave for Asia for 6 months, starting in Thailand. I would prefer to leave with a single flight as I do not yet know where my journey will end.
Is it possible to enter Thailand with a one-way flight without any problems?
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
She
You can be asked for it when you check in for the flight and be rejected there as well.
At TH immigration they don't ask for it.
Indeed, the problem today is only with the airline.
That can be difficult.
Of course you do not have to have a ticket back to the Netherlands to exclude any risk, you can also, for example, book the cheapest one-way ticket you can find on the 30th day of your stay in Thailand, from Thailand to any neighboring country, or to a country where you still want to go.
Probably won't cost you more than a few tenners and you can always see if you're going to use it.
I have never been asked to show my ticket upon arrival in Thailand. So getting in will work. But to check in on a flight to Thailand you need a return ticket or a ticket with a connection to another country. In addition, you sometimes pay a little less for a one-way ticket, but often more than for a return ticket. I would buy a return ticket, the return date of which can be changed.
Hmmmmmm this is not correct. On 12 January 2016 I flew from Amsterdam to Bangkok with China Airlines. Had booked a single journey for 430 € while edn return was at least 540 €.
So yes, you can fly with a one-way ticket without any problems. If they ask you at Schiphol what your plans are, just say that there are no fixed travel plans yet, but that you want to explore further Asia from Thailand. Have fun.
I also flew on August 2015 with a one-way ticket from Amsterdam to Bangkok with China Airlines.
Wasn't a problem!
Please note that a one-way ticket is almost always more expensive than a return ticket. It is often cheaper to buy a return ticket and not use the return journey. Do not know about your visa if you fly back earlier or later than the date of your booked return ticket. You can also buy a return ticket for the return flight and not use the return flight. Or as an option you take a return ticket with the possibility to change. It is more expensive but always cheaper than 2x one way, but even then you have to check the status of your visa if you change. I think you can find all the information at http://www.backpackeninazie.nl/backpacken-thailand/informatie-thailand/visum-thailand/
I think if you don't have to stay longer than 30 days on arrival in Thailand, you don't need a Visa, where they can require this.
Every time you come back via the airway, you automatically get another 30 days, only it is different if you come back to Thailand via the country road, as far as I know you only get 15 days.
This is the current state as far as I know, so it all depends on how you go about your journey
I just flew, no problem. Only it is more expensive
Book an open ticket, so you can go back whenever you want.
The airline will be difficult or will refuse you. What I did when I was refused was to immediately book a one-way ticket BKK-PENANG at the airport and then ask for a refund in Bangkok, which I always got. You can also have the one-way ticket Bkk-Penang redeemed at the airline of purchase in Bangkok and then it will remain valid for use for a whole year. You can do this every year until you use it. It's a kind of admission of guilt from society, it's not easy. I found that out by yes maaren at British Airways in BKK who then did that for me. Made use of it a year later but had to pay the difference of the higher airfare. You can then use this note anywhere in the world and anywhere with possibly. additional payment. Used it then through British Airways office at Schiphol.
