Dear readers,

When I am in Chiang Mai I would like to visit the Elephant Nature Park. Is it true that abused elephants are taken care of in this park? I don't want to support a park that is based on abuse or neglect.

Greetings,

Lisette

A visit to the Elephant Nature Park (ENP) is the best thing you can do - ask Khun Lek, the founder, about explanations if she is there otherwise there are certainly others who can do that - WONDERFUL WORK Khun Lek is doing.

Also, WFFT in Petchaburi is a fantastic opportunity to see not only elephants but also other wildlife in shelter/rehabilitation – founded and led by Dutchman Edwin Wiek who also does GREAT WORK and has been very instrumental in confiscating the tigers from the infamous Tiger Temple

    Have fun,
    Margot

If abused elephants are taken care of in the park, it means that they are not abused, but are taking care of the animals that have suffered as a result.
In that case it is good to support the park.

You have to check that they don't mistreat the elephants in that park. Big difference from what you said.

My daughter and her friend also spent a day there and they said it was fantastic what a wonderful job the founder is doing for those elephants.
She really does it with LOVE.

  4. Hello Lisette,
    The Elephant Nature Park (Chiang Mai area) is OK;
Elephants World (Kanchanaburi area, people speak a lot of Dutch) is also OK, just like the park of Dutchman Edwin Wiek: World Life Friends Foundation (Hua Hin area).
    Have fun!

    Hello Lisette,

I would definitely go there if I were you. I absolutely want to go there in the spring.

I follow them on facebook, look up the site on facebook. Do you get to read messages every day or watch movies about eg Navann and all the other elephants they give a good home there.

Lek Chailert and all the other employees do a very good job there.

So make sure and support them or help out for a few days, that's also possible

    Good luck,

    Gr Sandra

    Lisa,

In the meantime I have been to ENP twice. First time for 2 days (in December 2), and now last December for 2014 day.
I would definitely opt for at least that one night. You then have much more time to spend with the elephants, you also have more time to take a look at the dog shelter!
The overnight stay near their sleeping place was great!
One day was a little less for us, in our opinion the park has become much bigger / more commercial in the meantime, but if it benefits the elephants, that's the most important, right!
Enjoying those beautiful animals there is the message, it left a very deep impression on me.
If anyone has any tips for such parks I'd love to hear them.

    Christine

We went to the Elephant Hospital near Lampang, where injured and abused elephants are taken care of.

I've been there once for 3 days and once for 1 day. Last year I tried another park, but I didn't like it. This year I am going for 2 days. In any case, try to go for at least 1 night. Don't expect a busy schedule, just relax while enjoying the closeness of the elephants. When I was there the first time, Lek (the founder of the park) was there too. Amazing and moving how the elephants react to her. It costs a bit, but then you also have an unforgettable experience. By the way, the (vegetarian) food is delicious.

Been there last month, is next to the massae elephant park.
I thought entrance is 1200 THB pp, yes you can first change into blue shorts and a blue blouse, because you will get dirty! Then you get a tour of the park and you can feed the elephants bananas, you also see a cemetery where the deceased lie, then you walk to a river where you can wash the elephant, the best part of the trip. Afterwards (approximately 90 minutes) you can take a shower if you wish and you can take a cold beer to cool down.
one more tip, don't book a day trip. We took a songtauw (red-cab) there and back plus waiting 700THB
Have fun, it's worth it, and no abuse seen!

Oops oops, I just heard that we have been to the Thai elephant care center, so this was also a shelter, they are also on Facebook, and everyone has a private tour, 1 elephant for 2 people.

An animal friendly elephant camp, do not offer elephant rides. So those that do should be avoided
