Dear readers,

Certificate of Residence for Thai driver's license. Previously, the yellow book of property condo was enough for the above. But now I read: “Original present resident address in Thailand certify from embassy / immigration bureau (valid for 1 year) or work permit (with present resident address identified) and original photo copy or work permit with original and photo copy”

Does anyone know if the yellow book is still enough?

Regards,

Adriaan

In Kanchanaburi last year my yellow book sufficed as proof of address.
But can be different everywhere of course.

The yellow Tabien Baan for foreigners and for that matter also the blue Tabien Baan for Thais is only proof of address, not any proof of ownership.

The yellow booklet, together with your passport is normally sufficient… Never had any problems with it in 12 years.

Everything is arranged for you for 5000 bath. No books, papers, nothing. Only you have to go to "CBR" 2x (I don't remember what it's called here) for an appointment and photo, and you will be picked up and returned neatly, including in the price

    • RonnyLatYa says up

I'm going to the doctor to get a health certificate and go myself.
I'll put that 5000 Baht in my pocket.
No movie last year and was back out in 20 minutes with a new extension. And I only have to go once.

What are you going to do the 2 times there?

      • Aad says up

Easy. 1x to make an appointment yourself and 1x to bring a brake test, photo and driver's license. No exams, no doctor's certificates, an immigration, nothing. So nice and easy. Pay 5000, and it will all be taken care of. I'd be happy to do it. And this was my 1st Thai driver's license by the way.

        • RonnyLatYa says up

          Indeed simple.
I also didn't have to do any exams when applying for my first Thai driver's license.
          Not theoretically, not practically.
Didn't have to go to immigration either.
Only got a doctor's certificate the night before here behind the corner that cost me 150 Baht. Took 10 minutes.

It was not necessary to make an appointment. Not even in COVID time at my extension last year. May be different elsewhere.
Apart from that doctor's statement, things that I already have at home such as a Belgian driver's license, yellow address book and passport. So I didn't have to go after anything.

Then reaction and eyes test just like everyone else.
Take a photo and watch a video.
          Received driver's license and ready.

          Nice and easy.

As far as I can read, they only ensured that you did not need a doctor's statement. And apparently they passed on an address without you having to provide proof. Because of course your address is also on your driver's license.
But other than that, they didn't even make an appointment for you. You had to do it yourself. Oh yes, and bring it back and forth 2 times. So a taxi service.

          Very easy indeed…

I've only been here 5 months. In the beginning a lot of hassle with immigration. Papers this, that and back again etc. So I found and find a piece of cake this way. No hassle, stress, etc. I am happy that I have my Thai driver's license this way. And my motorcycle license. I forgot. Including, while I had no motorcycle license at all in the Netherlands. Only int. Driving license ANWB, which accidentally stamped a motorcycle license. So, really easy...

            • RonnyLatYa says up

Also on my Belgian driver's license. You used to get that automatically.

But missing I have no experience with motorcycles, have never ridden one and it means absolutely nothing to me and will not start with it, I have let that pass me by.
My wife does ride a motorcycle. I can't figure that out.

And just like a driver's license, I don't think applying for extensions at immigration means anything either.
People make a lot of fuss for nothing. Just prepare properly. The Internet is full of it.

    Dear Adrian,
the yellow book is not enough. After all, that does not prove that you actually live there. It is not because you own a condo that you also live there, you can rent it out and live elsewhere yourself.
So just do what is written, that's the simplest thing. Of course, for the immigration certificate you will have to pay a small amount.
You can also officially register with the ampheu. They can also provide a valid proof of residence, which is free.

    • RonnyLatYa says up

Of course the yellow book should be enough.
This is a proof of address issued by the municipality and can only be obtained if you are registered with the municipality.
If that does not prove that you live there, then neither does the statement from the municipality.

  5. PEER says up

    Yes Adrian,
In my case, that yellow booklet was enough to apply for my Th driving license.
And also my pink Thai ID card.
But had to pass the driving test.

    • RonnyLatYa says up

In Kanchanaburi. Yellow booklet ok but pink ID had to be the passport.

  6. Jan says up

Yellow booklet is not sufficient, you must submit a Certificate of Residence, complete with photo.
    Costs 300 bt at Immigration.

    Dear Adrian

According to say………………….until the official decides otherwise.

Are there any benefits to having a yellow home book?

Unlike the blue house book for Thai nationals, holding a yellow Tabien Baan does not grant additional rights (such as voting) to foreigners. However, it is generally accepted nationwide when your address in Thailand needs to be verified; for example, when registering a Thai prepaid SIM card, arranging home broadband service, obtaining a Thai driver's license, registering as a patient in a hospital or clinic, purchasing a vehicle, transferring ownership of real estate, checking into a hotel or for a domestic flight, opening a Thai bank account or setting up an electricity or water supply. In addition, it allows the holder to secure the Thai award at locations (such as national parks) that impose two-tier entry fees, making them eligible for a pink foreigner ID card.

    • RonnyLatYa says up

      As a supplement.

The blue Tabien Baan also does not entitle you to vote.
That only gives the Thai ID card. Only that proves that someone has Thai nationality and is entitled to vote.

The blue Tabien Baan then only serves as proof that you can vote in a certain polling station that is provided for your address.

    Hallo,

Went to immigration in Jomtien last Wednesday. Certificate of residence simply obtained on the basis of the address mentioned on the current driver's license. No questions about yellow booklet, etc. Obtained doctor's statement, made copies and made an appointment at the desk outside the transport office. Back today for brake test and color deafness, arranged a few photos and new driving licenses again. It seems to go a little faster now.

    • fred says up

Didn't you have to watch that video for an hour and answer a few multiple choice questions in between?

Last year it was certainly still the case and this for my 2nd 5-year extension.

  9. janbeute says up

This week I did my umpteenth extension for 5 years for motorcycle and car driving license at the Lamphun transport office.
Making an appointment online first took me more than a month and a half to find an open spot.
Watch the 90-minute film online at home and scan or print the QR code afterwards.
Have the doctor make two health statements at a local clinic, total costs 60 baht.
Be present on time for the appointment the next day and hand in the papers.
Including both expired driver's licenses, copy of printout of the appointment at the transport office, copy of passport and copy of retirement visa stamp and copy of yellow homebook, and of course proof of following the film.
Then do the well-known reaction test, etc., in a group.
After that new driver's licenses received total cost for both 750 Baht. Since I went for the two driving licenses, all copies went wrong in two.
    Thats it.
