Reader question: What about Unive's foreign policy?
Hello fellow readers,
I regularly read something about a foreign policy from Unive, a policy for which you do not have to meet the requirement "resident in the Netherlands".
Now I've done a little searching and it seems to be "Careful" insurance and it's run by Unive, but it is and I quote "Careful" targets anyone who has or has had an employment relationship with the Department of Defense. Family members can also participate.
In other words, this is an insurance policy for ONLY people who had a position for the Ministry of Defence, including as civilian personnel, by the way, but you must have been employed by or with the Ministry of Defence.
My question is; Can you also take out this insurance as an ordinary citizen? If not, why does everyone praise this insurance so much, while it is only for a select group of people?
Yours faithfully,
Lex K.
I have the foreign policy from Unive, but have (had) nothing to do with Defence.
When I lived in the Netherlands, I had been insured with Unive for decades and when I moved to Thailand I was able to switch to the Buitenlandpolis policy.
Unive does not accept new clients, the Buitenlandpolis policy is only for existing clients.
It is not a cheap insurance, I now pay 460 Euros per month, but I am very satisfied with it!.
Four hundred and sixty euros a month?
In other words, nineteen thousand seven hundred and eighty baht a month?
It's for nothing…………….
It seems to me that for that amount you can find a nice combined insurance in Thailand.
Even without exclusions.
And including an annual travel insurance.
I have, verily, a nice pension, and AOW, but I could not and would not afford such an amount.
And I have the impression that many who enjoy their “old age” in Thailand cannot and do not want to.
Given the current prices that are common in Thailand, I can't escape the impression that Unive also has a very high premium.
Can I say it?
Yes?
You pay way too much, Unive grabs………
Now I don't have to defend myself about how I spend my money, but I do want to explain!
When I lived and worked in the Netherlands, I paid the basic insurance premium plus a 4% income-related contribution. When I moved to Thailand and compared the foreign policy premium with this, it turned out that I was (slightly) cheaper.
I have had good health insurance all my life and, indeed, Unive has benefited from that. I have never been seriously ill, fortunately!
Now that I'm a bit older, the risk of getting something among the members is of course increasing and my opinion is that good insurance is therefore essential.
I do worry about a possible illness, but I don't worry about the medical costs. I'm sure that unfortunately not everyone can say that.
Dear HansNL,
Could you tell me please:
1) what are the current prices for health insurance in Thailand,
2) with which company are you offered it,
3) what are the policy conditions, especially regarding pre-excisting conditions, or are they excluded from cover
4) and finally; are you also eligible for that insurance as a non-Thai national?
You have made me very curious with your response; so please provide names and premiums, I and probably many fellow readers will be grateful if you provide useful information, so that we can also take out affordable and reliable insurance.
Thanks in advance for your info.
Yours faithfully,
Lex K,
I can imagine that you are very satisfied with an insurance policy with Dutch conditions, contact persons and no exclusions, just a pity that no new policies are taken out.
Thanks for the info
Regards,
Lex K.
For Gringo it will come that you 460 euros pm because you had nothing to do with defense.,
I have had my entire working life with defense and pay at unive universal complete with Thailand as country of residence 365 euros pm I am 72 years old, I have had enlarged prostate and colon cancer, had surgery and 12 chemo,s and various checks and scans all together still a 60000 euro neat bank guarantee by unive even paid nothing
PS the insurance also applies when I am in the Netherlands, I receive a medical report from my oncologist to make a CT scan in the Netherlands this year in May, I have been deregistered from the Netherlands since 2009, but I am in the Netherlands for 4 months every year and according to her in October a ct. pet scan but I will be back in Thailand by then an appointment for a check-up on 14/09 at the ram hospital in changmai
Just like some other Dutch insurers, Unive has a so-called 'loyalty abroad policy', which means that you are eligible if you were previously insured in the Netherlands with them or their partnership.
To my knowledge, only OVZ and OOM offer 'free' foreign policies, and OVZ is the most flexible; the costs are close to what is stated above. Switching to another insurance is a big field with obstacles and snags. Thai insurance takes the cake. Take a look at the website of the Dutch Association Thailand – Pattaya (under information) for the document Health Insurance and Medical Procedures in Thailand http://www.nvtpattaya.org
What it says is still correct, but the amounts have changed slightly. Another good site for insurance is http://www.joho.nl with downloadable information from many insurers.
Hello MACBEE,
I think that by the OVZ you mean the ONVZ. Last year I switched from the English AVIVA to ONVZ. I am 72 years old and pay 2300 euros every six months with a 400 euro deductible. I mentioned at registration that I have had arrythmia for a long time. Don't make them a problem. So no exclusions at a reasonable price. The reimbursement ceiling is at the price level in the Netherlands for similar services.
Comparable insurance in the Netherlands is that of the ONVZ health insurance abroad. With selection, so if you are not too wrong now, perhaps recommended if you want to emigrate and still want to remain insured under Dutch conditions.
The unive insurance is available to everyone who lives abroad.
I know many emigrated people who have taken out this insurance, and I can assure you that they have had nothing to do with defense.
what is needed is a little patience and perseverance because the administrative staff at this company sometimes make mistakes when giving information.
their application form with the conditions was also somewhat unclear to those who are entitled to take out this insurance.
In any case, after a spicy email correspondence, I personally received an apology from the manager.
and also the confirmation that I, as an emigrated former resident of the Netherlands who had never been insured with unive before, could take out this insurance.
success with it
Dear Daniel,
Univé insurance is available to everyone. As stated in the article, Univé Careful insurance is only available to persons who are or were employed by the Ministry of Defence.
Yours faithfully,
Melvin
I have a suspicion, but I'm not sure.
When I was sure at the beginning of 2009 that I would be deregistering from the Netherlands, I asked several times by email and telephone whether they would send me a form for applying for university abroad, never received a message.
Then presented this to my secretaries of the military union the ACOM who will contact Unive immediately within a few days they have sent the forms to the union find it strange that it can be done so quickly my suspicion is that they would rather not have this policy have more.
See this web page:
http://www.zorgzaamverzekerd.nl/verzekering/verzekeringsvoorwaarden/universeel-polis.html
Go down press reimbursement overview/premium unive 2014 unive universal complete
And download it then you have all the data
Dear Hans,
The Universal Policy can no longer be taken out. However, insured persons who have taken out this Universal policy before the expiry of this insurance are still entitled to this insurance. That is why these documents exist.
Yours faithfully,
Melvin
I have inpatient only insurance with Inter Global. This cover is worldwide (excluding the USA) + travel insurance. I am now 71 and the premium from the age of 70 is THB 214,000./year
Below the age of 70, the premium was 145,00/year.
See: http://www.interglobal.com/thailand
phone 02207 1023
premium should be THB 145,000/year
For hans.nl I like that you can find a nice combined insurance in Thailand without exclusions.
And including an annual travel insurance.
That is of no use to us if you don't tell us/me where and for someone 65+, because we all want that and only want to tear down the university.
We/I all want to have the cheapest possible insurance shows us/me the way
Maybe someone can answer this question for me?
Having had an employment relationship with the Ministry of Defense is a condition for the Univé policy, I was a military conscript, then 2 years!, with the Air Force.
Can conscription also be seen as an employment relationship at the Ministry of Defence?
I think so, I worked for this Ministry and received a monthly payment for it, so an employment relationship?!
Thanks for info on this.
Nico
for nico i can't answer your question because i don't know
I can give you the telephone number of unive universal in Eindhoven
0031 402975750
what I can tell you is that for 2010 it is called university abroad in alkmaar and in 2010 it switched to
unive universal with its head office in Eindhoven
The validity of my Unive health insurance card expired in December 2013
According to the Unive, no new health cards will be issued for the Unive Unverseel Complete (as it is officially called)
My motive is: It seems rather embarrassing to me to consult with any type of medical service abroad for payment with an A-4 sheet in hand that says POLIS 2014 and states the monthly premium amount of 365,00 euros.
Negotiating with an official health insurance card is more professional and familiar, I thought.
Anyone have experience with this topic?
