Dear readers,

Thailand the place to be….have been there since 1976 and have seen Bangkok change tremendously. I regularly slept in a residence for KLM employees (Plaswijck) where Jimmy (bartender) used to juggle with the bottles.

Anyhow… what strikes me in a city like Bangkok is that there is nowhere (as far as I know) a shop where you can buy traditional Dutch specialties. For example cheese, licorice (salty), stroopwafels, herring etc. etc.

I've been here for 2 months now and I sometimes dream about it at night.

Maybe I missed it and is this shop really there? Awaiting positive news,

Yours faithfully,

Robert

From what I remember, Foodland sells Edam Gouda (whether or not from NL) I have sometimes bought licorice there and I know that you can also get sauerkraut there (canned), many soups and sauces from Knorr or another brand are also available here . Further at the Big C extra is often a large position with farang food would also take a look there large meat department where you can buy minced meat or other meat
You can just buy carrots onions and potatoes at the market here cauliflower is also available.
I think at the macro they have those edam wheels for sale
It won't taste real Dutch but it comes close and just a matter of taking your time when you go to the supermarket you will see a lot of things that can be used for your Western appetite.

You should take a look at the macro edam cheese douwe egberts coffee and other things at a reasonable price.

      Oh Tinus,

You forgot to mention 2 real Dutch gourmets.

At Big C Extra, BREAKFAST CAKE AND SPECULOSS.
And speculoos is really written with 2 o's.
A nice dollop of butter on the gingerbread.MMM

Then there won't be much demand for it.

In larger supermarkets you sometimes come across a piece of Dutch cheese, but you are shocked by the price they ask for it

For that reason I have removed cheese from my shopping list.
At tops here in CM a lot of foreign food is available especially English and German. At import prices..
Presumably also found in Bangkok as a branch of major Mall's.

In the Supermarket (downstairs) in Paragon (Bangkok) you can buy products from different countries almost from all over the world, including Dutch Calvé etc. You can order Dutch new herring from Pim in Hua Hin (see advertising links) which is sold by delivered all over Thailand.

I don't know exactly what you call Dutch, but in the supermarkets of Foodland and VillaMarket you can buy a large assortment of Western products: cheese, butter, crackers, peanut butter, chocolate sprinkles (in the baking products), bread, jam, pickles, mustard, etc. etc.

If there are things that you cannot find, you can still have it imported via the site dutchexpatsproducts.com. For Thailand you can have a box of up to 30 kilos sent to you for 35 euros (shipping costs). Definitely recommended for people with children who like to celebrate Sinterklaas with real ginger nuts and chocolate

When you buy a real Gouda cheese at the Makro, whole cheese of around 4 kilos, you pay just as much as in the Netherlands. And since the cheese has to be imported here, we don't think Thailand is bad. You then put the cheese in pieces in your refrigerator, well wrapped, preferably airtight. We think it's a great solution.

In Bangkok, a Dutch-run company makes stroopwafels, filled speculaas and sausage rolls.

I don't know if I'm allowed to post the web link.... http://www.b4bakery.com … and if not you can send an email to [email protected] I'll give you the web link.

I was recently in the Philippines and there was a German who left
containers with Aldi products come from Germany. Really like what
you normally encounter in an Aldi store in NL or Germany was present.
Prices were very reasonable and not much more expensive than the Aldi in NL. Store
was very popular with the local expat population. The problem is that everything ferang
likes in Thailand is very expensive on the one hand due to the import duties and on the other hand
by the pursuit of profit by the Thai. Australian apple juice of the same brand costs
in the Philippines half the price in Thailand. This applies to cheese and many other products.
It is better not to talk about wine, which costs only a third in the Philippines
of what it costs in Thailand.

    regards,

    YES

If you lived in the Chiangmai area .
Then you could look around at the many Rimping markets, especially the larger ones.
Have many products from both Holland and Germany.
There are many products for sale that are imported or made here by farangs themselves.
Dutch cheese, not cheap but available.
Sauerkraut, red cabbage, beetroot and much more from Jo, s Best
Kale and other cabbage-related products, including spinach from Stollenberg from Germany.
Not to mention how much is available here
Every week I go by bike to kad farang in Hangdong or to the larger one not far from the nawarat bridge .
But there are more in CM .
There are also bitterballen, croquettes and frikandellen available, made somewhere by a Dutchman with his wife north of Cm if I can remember in Mae Rim.
Also have a website , but I do not have it available at the moment .
So here in the north of Thailand you don't have to starve to Dutch eating habits.

    Jan Beute.

foreign products are for sale at Big C, Tops and Tesco. Only what's there when is always a surprise. Sometimes you are lucky and you find something Dutch. Drop I have never found.

  16. PIM. says up

Pim has a special room to cut herring, nice and cool.
That is not possible in a market because the temperature is too high for that.
Pim has made a study of how it can be responsibly offered in the tropics.
A Thai woman cannot say that without specially made tools.

Now he also offers North Sea mackerel steamed with oak wood himself.
Just look at the site http://www.dutchfishbypim.nl
Available at various shops that are also on the site.
They are not all, as already mentioned in a comment, the delivery is almost throughout the country.
Even islands are included such as Koh Lanta and Koh Chang.

  17. janbeute says up

Frikandellen, bitterballen, croquettes and even homemade snert (pea soup).
