Home » Reader question » Reader question: To Bangkok with an hour transfer in Abu Dhabi, is this feasible?
Dear readers,
Flights from Dusseldorf with Etihad airways to Bangkok with a transfer of only one hour in Abu Dhabi is this feasible? The planes won't be next to each other and it's a search again I assume where you need to be?
Who can tell me more?
Yours faithfully,
Petra
When Etihad sells a ticket with a transfer time of 60 minutes, this means that the time is within the airport's minimum transfer time. Of course, that doesn't mean that your connection is guaranteed – a slight delay can mess things up in such a case.
I've already had that 2 times at Etihat, and both times went great.
No searching or rushing anything, but neatly guided from one plane to the next by the super organized ground staff.
The first time the planes were neatly next to each other, and I even had time for a cup of coffee in that hour.
Well, we've had it a few times before, but catostrophically. and super UNFRIENDLY ground staff. We fly very often, but so far we find Abu dhabi the most unfriendly airport. this does not apply to the flight crew
No problem. Walk a bit and see where you need to be.
Etihad is one of the best airlines and does a great job.
Have a nice flight.
Mhh strange what I see is that Etihad has 1.40 hours transfer time (or longer) between flights. Just from Düsseldorf. (personally prefer emirates) e.g. departure on I name a date:
27 Nov. departure (return flight eg Dec 11) with Ethiad
10:15 Dusseldorf 06:45 Bangkok 14h30m 1x transfer Stopover 01h40m – Abu Dhabi, Ver. Arab Emirates.
Have never had less than 1.40 hours transfer time ... then you can relax. Return flight is usually 2.50 hours stopover (stopover time outward and return journey can also be the other way around, depending on which ticket you book).
So check your transfer time carefully (and wandering around at dubai airport is no punishment….with a bit of luck you can win a Maclaren sports car or a Porsche cayenne…(no joke)
Best regards
A ticket at ethiad from brussels..Check in online in advance..Then you think everything is ok. Then you come to the check inn. Then they give you new boarding pass to abu dabi. Do you arrive in abudabi, do you think I have to go to the transfer bali. You are misled because you got a boarding pass in brussels.. so you think in abu dabi too. In addition, the signage is very unclear. And the distances are very large to other Gates. When they come to the transfer desk they say you have booked online, you don't have to do anything. But at the same moment the flight is about to leave. So you have to run to catch your flight to Bangkok. Also the toilets are unlikely. 4 toilets for 100 people. They do have it but it is in center. So Ethiad is not a user-friendly company. For example, if you have entered 1 letter of your name incorrectly, you can pay 150 euros to correct this. Emirates is even worse, they charge full pound if you want to change your flight.
So no more Arab airlines for me. And many walk away with the service. But at KLM, Qantas, malesian airways, eva airways, china airways and egypt airways always better service. If you have a night flight with the Arabs, they hardly come with a drink, because they think you are sleeping.
So no more Arabs for me. too bad because 6 hours and 6 hours is more fun than 12 hours in a plane
Everyone knows that you have to fill in the exact details as stated on your passport, so that is, sorry to say, a non argument. And as far as the care with “those Arabs” is concerned… taste a certain undertone in that, it is also perfect on the night flights… as often as you want you get whatever you want….at least I have never had a problem when I just kindly asked.
The signs on ABU Dhabi are very clear in my opinion. The distances to the other gates are very doable if you just look at the signs (just state the times… just like for example Schiphol where you also have to walk for 35 minutes) advantage on Dubai you just take the metro from one to the other gate …. So well say it I think it's not all that bad after all
Dear Malee, Can't agree with your criticism about Emirates and Dubai Airport at all, I'm sorry! Amendments? Always read the conditions of your ticket, these are stated when booking! Last time flew back a month later. Costs 60 Euros!
Etihad and similar airlines such as Emirates are often very efficient. It'll be fine. Nice one hour in between. No hanging out at the airport. Still, I would recommend EVA AIR next time. Direct and really not much more expensive.
Yep, that's no problem. You don't have to pick up your suitcase, you just have to transfer. This is done within 1 hour and in the event of a delay, the departing aircraft waits for what is still to arrive (you will be picked up quickly and dropped off at the waiting aircraft).
So don't worry, just enjoy a happy holiday!
Hello Cornelis ….. yes it is possible, if everything goes on time, and have no delays, as I left 50 min late in May, so late in Abu Dhabi, you will be collected by Ethiad, first by the duane 3 hours , then arrange transport and stop in a hotel to get something to eat, because now it is midnight, 5 hours of sleep and hopefully flying at 8 o'clock in the morning, 2 extra planes will go in a row. arrival in Bkk at 1700 waiting for your suitcase, it was not there with me so was on the next plane, almost missed my bus to my destination that I ordered online, arrived at destination, with a total travel time of over 30 hours, suitcase was delivered 2 hours later, was broken and totally stressed, because of this misery…. back away with air Berlin was good. After my total Trip complained to ethiad but after a long time correspondence rejected due to safety …… so watch what you are doing… Gr Andre
Hi,
One hour is very tight; Abu Dhabi has expanded a lot in recent years and gates
are far apart. In winter, Abu Dhabi airport often suffers from morning fog,
which is sometimes very stubborn, preventing aircraft from taking off.
Inge
Is fine to do. I myself flew to Thailand twice via that route. However, you book through Etihad but fly with other companies. I can't remember which companies they were. One time there was a plane from India. That was a bit weird.
You can see this when booking, pay very close attention. we had Etihad Etihad on the way there and with KLM on the way back. Other companies do this too. always pay attention. also in terms of transfer time. Sometimes it says 12 hours transfer time. So you really shouldn't have that
I did the same thing once with a 2 hour transfer time. The vans were very slow. So we just barely made it. I wouldn't recommend it.
no. is not convenient. I believe they are allowed to book with an hour transfer minimum. You will make it if your plane leaves on time (and keep in mind that Dubai is big and you may have to take a train to another terminal - it is very fast and smooth by the way). why is not convenient: your luggage. They almost never make it. Must be unloaded and reloaded in an hour…
abu dhabi I am reading now… sorry. but the warning about luggage also applies there.
I've been flying with Eithad for 8 years, 3-5 times a year to Bangkok, Manila and Ho Chi MInh, never had any complaints when transferring, always made the connection, but my 2 previous flights, both onward and return journey luggage not with me, not only from me, but from many, luggage was always sent 24h or 48h later. This of course causes the necessary inconvenience. in HCMC again of that, we got NOTHING there even after a fierce discussion, but it was said buy something and bring in your invoices when you leave here. When we left and brought in our invoices they said arrange it in Abu Dhabi, I insisted to speak to an Etihad responsible, who only showed up after 3000 minutes and after fifteen minutes of drivel, he then paid the invoices, was +/- 3 euros for 25 men, which amounts to 150 euros per person. I actually do not know what people right if your luggage is not with you.
Does anyone know more about this????????????????
It should be mentioned that both service and quality, as well as the miles to be acquired and the extras such as a lounge in Abu Dhabi, are always decreasing. In the beginning they did everything they could to bring in the customers, but now that they have it, it is getting serious. everything shortened, just now also on the miles to be acquired, now tickets economy is divided into 3 classes, according to price and miles to be acquired.
Have also already booked tickets 3 times on an advertisement sent by them to my email in which they said if I book within 3 days, I would receive double miles, but each time I do not get them, you cannot claim them on the site, via email NEVER gets an answer, when calling they say they will do the necessary, but nothing happens, and in the airport they say we will send an email, which happens, but you still don't get what they promised, what do you have to do do ??and you can not believe at all the emails they send.
Hi Peter,
Last summer we also flew via Abu Dhabi. We originally had a transfer time of 5 hours, but unfortunately another 9 hours were added that day. Our plane did not depart due to technical failure, they said and we finally left at 19.00 pm instead of 10.00 am. Completely broken from the journey, we arrived in Bangkok more than 9 hours later, with our 2 kids! In Abu Dhabi they told us that the plane to Bangkok has very regular delays, so I would think again to fly with Ethiad, we certainly don't do that anymore!!
Tips to avoid switching or otherwise.
Amsterdam
1.! Fly KLM and or China Airways directly
2. Fly EVA Air
Brussels
Jet Air or Lufthansa via Frankfurt and or Zurich
Frankfurt
BA
Lufthansa
Thai Airways
Garuda
with no delay it is achievable.
Airport Abu Dhabi is very small.
I myself have flown 2 times with an hour transfer time, all times went well.
Abu dhabi is a small airport and easy to find . perfect flight for me.
