Dear readers,

I bought an AIS SIM card in Thailand. Can I still activate this in the Netherlands because of internet banking? Or should I have activated data roaming in Thailand?

Sim is registered, mandatory since July 1, 2015.

Yours faithfully,

Henk

    Hallo,

I assume you have a smartphone, AIS has an app in the google playstore called AIS roaming with which you can activate roaming according to the description.

I hope it is of some use for you.

    Dear Henk

Maybe this information will help you at the end of this month I will retire
and live in Thailand and did the following to be able to use internet banking:

My AIS SIM card (bought at 7-11) is suitable at the AIS office in Pattaya
(roaming) made for internet banking (Thai and Dutch bank account)
For this I had to personally go to the AIS store in Central Festival, this was not possible via the internet!.
Works fine, get SMS from Thai bank for transactions.

I can't confirm whether you can activate this with an app

    Succes

    Dear Henk,
My wife can also do Thai telebanking from the Netherlands, but with every transaction she receives a code from the bank via SMS, but abroad the bank does not send a code via your mobile. You have to call the bank to ask for the code and they will send it via email. It is also true that every time you have to do this procedure.

    Succes

I wonder if turning on data roaming is necessary, it will be very expensive anyway. But if you want to turn on normal roaming, you can do so via http://www.ais.co.th/en/index.html. The only problem is that you should (or should have) done that in Thailand, because you will receive an OTP (one time passport) via SMS on your Thai number to log in to that site. If the sim now works in the Netherlands, roaming is already on.

As a bank I have the kasikorn bank, with which I can do excellent internet banking in Thailand. I can also perform all actions in the Netherlands. I then change the Dutch card for the Thai SIM card from AIS in advance and can then do telebanking from the Netherlands. Receiving the OTP is fast as in Thailand

You may be able to buy a new one online, with roaming enabled right away.
