Dear readers,

I'm going to Thailand for 7 weeks, together with my girlfriend. I would like to see all of the north plus Cambodia as well. I think I have enough time for that but I wonder would I also add the south? Or would it be too tight?

I am leaving December 2nd to January 22nd.

Who has some tips? I especially like to see nature.

Best regards,

Jan

See all of the north and also Cambodia. Doable in 7 years, a little in 7 months and only the highlights in 7 weeks. And then you skip the isaan, that piece is also worth 7 years.

But if you map out the journey well with a decent and up-to-date guide such as the Lonely Planet and especially read this blog, you can visit a lot of nature. In that context I draw your attention to the nature along the Mehkong River in the province of Nongkhai, which has been written about in this blog. Just use the search function for isaan.

Have fun! Preparing is just as much fun as travelling.

7 weeks is very short but enough to visit some "highlights".
I've been coming there regularly since 1976 and I'm still not tired of that beautiful country.
My wife is Thai and she is also sometimes in for pleasant surprises.
    Wish you a pleasant journey.

    hello Jan
There is not much nature in Bangkok, but if you are going to Thailand for the first time, Bangkok is also very worthwhile.
A day on the Chao Phraya with the river express , to visit the royal palace , Wat Po , and on the other side with the ferry , Wat Arun , and get off at Ratchawongse pier to take a walk through China town , very easy to to undertake yourself.
Taking the bus to Kanchanaburi is also easy to do, there is beautiful nature there, for example the Eran waterfalls, a ride on the death railway, and to a nature park to care for and bathe with elephants, the tiger temple, and a scooter (or bicycle) rent, the war cemetery, where the Dutch are also buried and the small museum next to it.
Taking the sleeper train to Chang mai is also an experience in itself.
Around Chang mai you have beautiful nature , a trip to Laos via Chang Rai , past the White Temple , and of course Doi Suthep , a beautiful temple on a mountain overlooking the city .
You can take a domestic flight to eg Krabi or Pucket , or take the train back to Bangkok .
You can tour around Phuket with a scooter (you must get an international driving license from the ANWB)
From here, but also from Krabi you can book a tour to James Bond Island, the island is not much, but the trip over the water is beautiful.
There are travel agencies everywhere with very nice day trips.
With the ferry to the Phi Phi islands, it is really beautiful there, the island is very much aimed at young people, but if you are in the area, you should not miss it, especially a visit to Maya Bay.
It is unreal beautiful there , so you understand that you will not really be alone there hahahahaha , no with thousands .
From Koh Phi Phi you can take the ferry to Koh Lanta, there you can go on a scooter, to Koh Lanta Noi, a beautiful tourist-free island with beautiful beaches where, if you are not alone, there is at most a Thai family swimming with their clothes looking for shells. .
With the ferry to Krabi Ao Nang, you will be in the hustle and bustle again.
In Ao nang , you can buy tickets just before the beach to sail with a longtail to one of the islands , the best is Phra Nang Cave Beach where they do rock climbing and where the penis cave is , and where you can buy everything at a long tail, such as hamburgers, ice cream or drinks. Raily beach is best known.
The beach and the "boulevard" of Krabi is also nice.
A day trip to Krabi town is also fun , if you walk along the river , they will ask if you want to do a boat trip on the river , so you do not have to look for a tour agency , which is also recommended .
From both Phuket and Krabi you can take the night bus or take a domestic flight to Bangkok .
The train is not recommended, because you first have to take a bus before you reach Surat Thani station.

Instead of going south you can also go to Pattaya or Jomptien, and from there maybe to Koh Chang.
There is also a lot to do in Pattaya, you can take a ferry to koh Larn for the lovely beach there, or take the "baht bus" to Jomptien beach. There is also always a market somewhere, and you can enjoy shopping and going out there , Nong nooch tropical garden with its cultural and elephant show , a fake Floting market , if you haven't done that in Bangkok also nice , The Sanctuary of truth, a wooden "temple" and if you have enough time, a few days koh Samet a few hours from Pattaya is also great.
koh chang is more easterly and is towards cambodia .
It's a lot to do in 7 weeks, so you'd better pick a few regions with the fewest travel hours in between, because you'll be coming back to Thailand anyway.

This year we are going to Thailand for 3 months, and now we want to visit Cambodia for 2 or 3 weeks to visit the highlights.
I have already sorted out: by plane from Bangkok to Siem Reap, by boat to Battambang, by bus to Phnom Penh, by bus to Shianoekville (beach), to Kampot and Kep I still have to sort out, by bus to Phnom Penh and by plane back to Bangkok.
I still have to read a lot on all kinds of sites, about what there is to do, but I still have time
I like to know in advance where to , how to get there , which guesthouse meets my requirements , but I do not book anything in advance , only our plane tickets to Bangkok , and if I am not sure that I will stay in the hotel for us nicest neighborhood, I book over the internet 1 or 2 days in advance for 1 night, if we like it then we will stay, and if not we will leave after 1 night.
I hope my epistle will help you , and if you have any questions feel free to ask them .
    Mvg jacqueline vz

Jan, you write that you also want to go to Cambodia. Please note that when you return to Thailand by land you will only receive a visa for 14 days! You want to go 7 weeks so that could possibly cause problems. Because you are going to Thailand for longer than 30 days, you must apply for a visa at the Thai consulate in the Netherlands anyway. So you should apply for a re-entry visa. Have a nice trip!

Maybe it's nice to go to the south-west side. Andaman see at the border with Myamar. Near Ranong.
I go there every year to work for a long period of time and enjoy the peace and the beautiful surroundings. The organization is called TCDF (thai child development foundation) where you can relax in the middle of nature / jungle. You can do volunteer work or stay as a guest in the beautiful guesthouse. Do a yoga holiday, jungle track, whatever. Go to http://thaichilddevelopment.org For more information. And doable for a few days.
    Good times. Danielle
