Hello dear bloggers, I would like to share my positive experience with you.

At the age of 62, together with my Thai wife, I took the step to settle permanently in Thailand. In the meantime, 5 beautiful years have passed and I have not regretted my decision for a single moment. We live in a nice condo not far from the beach enjoying my well deserved retirement.

Last year, with the holidays approaching, my wife had commented several times that she had the impression that I had put on quite a few pounds. As a true Belgian Burgundian, I don't really care about that. Good food, enjoying life is a priority for me. Oh, what a few extra pounds!

But still, my wife was right about something. Could my passive life and our many restaurant visits still be the cause of my overweight? In the end I reluctantly put myself on the scale and oops, what a shock, 98 kilos around. I couldn't even remember my weight ever exceeding 90 kg! Knowing myself, I didn't feel like completely changing my lifestyle. Good food is more than dear to me and a lot of exercise is not for me at all.

I am an avid internet visitor and one day I came across a video on YouTube where there was talk of the positive effects of citrus fruits. I don't know why, but this caught my attention. This required further investigation.

To keep my story short, the final result was that when I started drinking a glass of water every morning, on an empty stomach, supplemented with the juice of a full lime.

Half an hour later I have an extensive breakfast as usual.

In the meantime, we are more than half a year further. I kept up my morning routine. And the positive effects of my glass of lime juice have ensured that I now weigh just under 90 kg again.

Is this a panacea? I don't know but for me personally it has produced a great result. So I plan to keep it up.

I wonder what my glass of miracle elixir will mean for me in the coming months. To be continued…

I drink my cup of coffee with lemon in the morning with the same result.

I have also read the thesis of a cup of coffee with lemon a number of times. Is that actually tasty? I understand tea with lemon, but coffee with lemon?

Apparently lemon (or lime) has a beneficial effect on our metabolism. However, I haven't tried it yet. I'm also a bit overweight, might be worth a try.

      • GeertP says up

Herman, it's really doable, I used to always drink my coffee with milk.
You do have to look for the best ratio, I have an espresso machine and make a slightly stronger coffee than normal.
        I lost 3 kilos in 6 months.

Losing 3 kilos in 6 months is a great result. A big congratulations for that!

Glad to see that there are still people with positive experiences (including myself). At the time I read a lot of reactions from people who effectively lost weight by consuming lemon water. I wouldn't just consider this to be nonsense.

Did you really do nothing else for it Martin??

Just the lemon/lemon juice in the morning?

Then I'll definitely give it a try!

    Greetings,
    William

In fairness I should add that I replaced the coffee (with sugar) during breakfast with a large cup of green tea (without sugar). Other than that I just lived as before.

Apparently, according to the info from the internet, a lemon (lime) is a good fat burning booster. If you take this on an empty stomach, it would even enhance this effect.

I am also a bit surprised by the result. Since I haven't changed my lifestyle otherwise, I assume my weight loss is due to the positive start to the day. Otherwise I have no explanation for it.

      Martin.

Nice to hear, I actually have the same thing, I weigh way too much, and whatever I do, it doesn't help. I live near Surin but am currently in New Caledonia for a few weeks. As soon as I get back I will also start a cure of lime and water, thanks for the tip and under the motto "it doesn't bathe it doesn't hurt either."

There doesn't seem to be any evidence for it. The only effect seems to be that your stomach is slightly filled by drinking water with lemon juice, so you eat less.

Well Kees, that's how I can hear it too.

A small search on the internet immediately yields 5 websites that claim the opposite. If you have to believe everything people predict then we are far from home.

Now I can hear you thinking, what is the added value of my links? Very correct, NOTHING, but I don't use it to undermine the topic starter's statement.

Martin's story is living proof that it apparently works. All other gurus think they have a monopoly on the truth, but I attach little importance to that.

      • Keith 2 says up

        Dear Herman and Stan (hereinafter),
What my response means: it has not been proven to help because water and lemon start to burn fat.

    • Stan says up

      Dear Kees,

It may be true that there is no evidence for this, but I personally also benefit from it. By the way, Martin also asks himself if this is a panacea.

Does everything have to be proven now? Many sick people already feel a lot better after taking some placebo pills. Nice is not it? Martin follows a course of treatment and after six months has lost a lot of kilos. Nice is not it? What more do you need?

Quite a few websites on the internet are full of, as far as the owner is concerned, their truth. If their truth is actually the truth, it doesn't matter. As long as enough visitors come by, that's important. Studies constantly contradict each other. I don't blindly believe everything I read and see.

4 purely commercial websites that (mis)use the subject of 'lemon water' to sell their own products. This says enough for me.

I think you are fooling yourself a bit dear Martin [BE]
Of course you lose some weight, but not a small ten kilos that has other causes.
I also did it myself for about four or five months: warm water with lemon juice in it twice a day.
Half a lemon per cup of 'tea'.
But you can do it just about anywhere and through anything.
Your intestinal system is cleaned and your metabolism speeds up.
    Your urge for snacks decreases.
All in all, I lost one and a half kilos and then also in the 'wrong' places.
Above sixty, weight gain comes naturally and that happens to be me.
The unconscious actions caused by your partner will also have more to do with your elimination race.
After all, weight fluctuations in healthy adult people is a very simple explanation.
You take in more energy than you need.

I have been taking 2 freshly squeezed limes for years and a day and drink on an empty stomach in the morning. Only then breakfast.
Seems to be good for many things, although not exactly proven. I have serious doubts about losing weight. Much more is needed for that, especially adjusting the diet and exercise.

I personally like it and it wakes me up. My stomach can handle it.

I've been doing this for many years, squeezing a lime every morning, the advantage is that you're awake right away because it's so sour. I don't know if you lose weight, I don't anyway, I stick to the amount of vitamin c you take in on an empty stomach, just after drinking the lime or lemon don't eat.

Glad to hear you lost weight. I have been using a glass of lukewarm water with squeezed lemon every day as the first thing in the day for several years. I like that, but I've never noticed any major weight loss. For me, that always goes hand in hand with eating less and more sensibly.

  10. Ger Korat says up

It is not the lemon/lime that causes weight loss because there is no scientific evidence for that. But there is something else you can say as a down-to-earth person and that is that you realize that you are overweight and therefore consciously pay attention to what you eat. It is already difficult to register everything you eat unless you keep track of the weight, sugar and fat percentages of everything and only then can you claim with dry eyes that you are eating and drinking as before, otherwise you are fooling yourself . Just as you can lose weight from water or cleanse your intestines or apply an ointment or vitamin to your skin to make you look younger. Watch what you eat, limit sugar intake and fast food, eat mainly vegetables and less fruit because that contains sugars and so on. And exercise more, that's the other half of the effort to lose weight. And for myself: I have been at the same weight for 40 years, since I started measuring as a young athlete, precisely because I know what causes weight gain.

  11. Cornelis says up

It seems to me one of the many myths in this field that are all too eagerly embraced by those who don't want to put in too much effort. Simply put, losing weight is the result of taking in fewer calories than your body expends as 'fuel'. I think Ger-Korat, above, hits the mark with his observation in his response.

  12. Lou says up

I'm curious about the result in half a year.

  13. albert says up

For me, drinking citrus juice regularly helped against kidney stones. Almost every year I suffered from a few kidney stones. Since this juice drink I have no more problems! And it's tasty too.

It's a pity, I'm bringing my personal story here and people are immediately ready with a large number of counterarguments. One would sometimes be afraid to write something here.

Nowhere in my topic does it say that there is scientific evidence that my 'miracle potion' actually helps, on the contrary.

The only thing I do know is that since I started drinking lime juice, I've lost a lot of kilos in more than half a year. And there's no doubt about that. So it works for me personally.

What the real reason for my weight loss is, I leave that to the specialists here on this blog. I am a satisfied and happy man.

  15. Wouter says up

    Dear readers,

I see there are quite a few comments here that question this story. Everyone has their own opinion of course, but in addition I would like to share my experience with you.

During my professional career I was a busy bee. Then I had absolutely no attention for my health and that was not necessary.

Since my retirement I have led a completely passive life with the result that two years ago my weight had climbed to 100 kg. This round number was the trigger for me. Such obesity along with getting older has led to a drastic decision.

I then started with “Intermittent Fasting”. This means that you can eat normally for a number of hours, outside of that only healthy drinks are allowed. I only ate between 12 noon and 20 pm. Once you're used to this, it's easy to keep up. I lost 15 kg in a year and a half.

I measure 1m70 and so had finally reached a weight of 85kg. The latter in itself is still much too much, but unfortunately, I had reached a point where there was almost no improvement. In “scientific terms” this is called a “weight plateau”. Unfortunately, I did not manage to break through this level anymore.

After some time I also came across the tip of regularly drinking lemon water. I then started with that (2 full glasses of water with 1/2 lemon per glass - 1 glass upon waking and 1 glass in the afternoon). Miracle oh miracle, my weight slowly but surely started to drop back. The end result to date is that after 2 years I have reached a weight of 78 kg. In itself a good result (from 100 to 78 kg).

I will not change my lifestyle of intermittent fasting with the lemon water. I feel good about it and I don't have any problems with it. And don't worry, I occasionally have a "cheat day" where I go crazy. That can't hurt at all as long as you pick up the old thread as soon as possible.

So this was my account. Hopefully it will help you and the lemon water myth will be cleared up a bit.

PS: Outside of my “cheat days” I don't drink alcohol. Everything else, a pastry, sugar in the coffee, an ice cream in the afternoon, a sugary soft drink in between, ... all this is possible and allowed between 12 and 20 pm.

    • khun moo says up

      Wouter,

intermittent fasting is a well-known scientifically based method.
Besides losing weight, it is also healthy.
Your body will use and burn excess reserves.

There is also another very simple method to lose weight.

      Take a smaller spoon.
Supplemented with a few glasses of water.
you will see that you are satisfied sooner and can leave larger portions.

Well, I think you can be happy. Whether it's because of that or not, you're not doing anything wrong with it.
That's how I discovered the miracle of collagen…. I always had a lot of itching on my arms when it was hot in recent years.
Coincidentally I had a box with sachets of collagen powder in the cupboard. I didn't know what it was, looked it up and it turns out to be a substance that the body makes itself, but the older you get the less it is produced. It is also in certain vegetables and also in fish and meat.
But since I put a bag of collagen in my chocolate milk, yogurt or fruit juice every day, the itch is gone… I don't know if that's why… we'll see it again in a year. I do feel it helps, just like you feel that lemon water helps.
And because I always liked to drink caipirinha (with the juice of a whole lime), but I also stopped drinking alcohol altogether for a few weeks, I haven't used lemon for a long time.
So I'm going to imitate you and start putting lemon in my water from tomorrow. I already drink a lot of pure water and then I also have a taste.
Maybe I'll lose a few pounds too! Would be great…I would like to lose 20 kilos.
