Sun bird

Of the small birds in Thailand, the sunbird is one of my favorites, just because of the name. It can be found almost everywhere in Thailand. It is indeed a very small bird, no larger than about 11 centimeters.

Striking is its downward curved beak. There are many often colorful species in Thailand. The most common, also often found in my garden (see photos), is the olive-backed sunbird.
With his shrill high voice he likes to make himself heard, so that you usually hear him first and only then see him. He makes a rather sloppy nest.

In the photo with the nest you see a female, which can be recognized by her yellow breast. On the yellow flowers is a male with a blue-black breast.

    Information…
The olive-backed sunbird is common across southern China and Southeast Asia to Queensland and the Solomon Islands. They are small songbirds, at most 12 cm long.

Beautiful birds, but they remain "slob foxes" as far as their nest is concerned!

A beautiful bird but oh so stupid! Every time it makes its nest more or less 50 cm from the ground and always close to where our dogs pass! They really can't be saved and we think that's such a shame!!!
    They ask for it exactly!
    So sad and beyond saving!
