Reader Submission: Experience trip to Thailand
Collected on arrival in Phuket and guided for further treatment. Documents are checked and the results of the PCR test are known within fifteen minutes. They will then put the Thai QR code on your phone, including a passport photo and a low-risk statement.
Then escorted outside to the taxi that will take you to your hotel. All this took less than an hour. Arrived at the hotel, stay in the room for two days with a daily temperature test. After two days of free movement in hotel and beach. End of quarantine. Document from hotel that everything is okay.
Well organized is my experience.

Hi Wim, thank you for your experience.
Just a question? Why did you have to stay in your hotel room for 2 days while the result was known after 15 minutes?
Regards Toi
We arrived on October 23 for the 7-day quarantine, and were able to walk around the island a few hours later. Strange that you now have to stay in your room for 2 days
I arrived yesterday around 3 in the afternoon. Got a call from reception around 8pm that I was free to go out. This morning a temperature check and mouth cap is mandatory everywhere.
May I ask what exactly is the situation with the face mask obligation? Is this only on the street or also at or in the pool and on the beach etc?
Hi Wim, I read everywhere that you only have to book 1 night and do the PCR test there. Why was that 2 days with you? Thx, Kamiel
Thank you for your extensive and detailed trip report!
With us the arrival in Phuket was on 29/10
When you arrive, first sit on a chair in the arrivals hall, wait for your papers to be checked and an attempt to install the mor chana app. Then another check on the health declaration and then on to customs.
After collecting the luggage, line up outside for a PCR test and then find the taxi to go to the hotel.
We then had to wait in the hotel for the result of the test. Our test was taken around 14pm and the result was in around 30pm, after that we were free to do what we wanted.
In theory you have to register at the hotel every day, but we only really did that once, it is very quiet here, so they can see at the reception who is or isn't there.
In most places there is a device for a temperature check and sometimes they also ask to do that test. Asked a few police officers yesterday about the face masks, it is mandatory everywhere in public places, even when you are cycling or walking, even on a moped or in the car. Everywhere except on the beach. They were not planning to give fines because that could scare off tourists, but they would issue warnings.
Have to say that I think it's pretty well arranged here in terms of Corona measures.
In the meantime our sandbox is over and we will continue to Krabi tomorrow, curious to see how it is there now.
Quite a hassle that COE that was previously mandatory. Relaxed from November 1, but still a number of rules such as insurance up to $50.000 if Covis occurs, PCR test before flying and PCR test on arrival. We left on Nov 1st and arrived on Nov 2nd. Very well and quickly arranged at Phuket airport after paper check outside the PCR test and then to the hotel. After 4 hours in the hotel room, get the results, fill out the app at reception (note 1 night SWA plus hotel) and then move freely. Still a lot closed, but the unique Thai atmosphere is very present ☀️
15min, 3hr, 4hr, 7hr so far to read for the PCR result. Very promising. We are going December 1 and am busy booking my 1-day hotel. Now the question is at what time we book the flight to Chiang Mai the next day…… Early in the morning is nice, but maybe a gamble. Afternoon or late afternoon safe, but perhaps unnecessary. Choices 🙂
Does anyone think that even the 1-day ASQ hotel will expire by then? Need that booking for Thailand Pass application anyway, so will just continue the booking if I get a response from them.
