Cremation of Ramon Dekkers

Dear editors of Thailandblog, here is a small report of Ramon's cremation.

Last Thursday at 16.00 p.m. was finally the cremation of our sports hero. I say finally because it was long and difficult days especially for the family. The reason for the wait was, among other things, that a proper and thorough investigation had to be carried out into the cause of death. It seemed annoying to the family, but when the judiciary explained very nicely that they had to do it right now because if we had questions later, they wouldn't be able to answer them, we were at peace with this. After much research, it became clear that Ramon's heart had failed and that was the cause of death.

The cremation was visited by more than 1.500 people from the Netherlands and abroad. The people were a true reflection of what Ramon had been like. Because he had time for everyone to chat, whether you had green or purple hair, whether you rode a bicycle or a motorcycle, it didn't matter to him. Everyone was equal to him.

There was room for 1200 people in the two auditoriums, but we also set up screens outside so that people could follow the service well, even outside in the sun. We have received many great sports heroes who had taken the trouble to say goodbye to this diamond in this beautiful sport in which Ramon Dekkers was the greatest.

Life goes on, but there remains a piece of empty in this world without him.

Thanks to everyone for their responses.

Thank you Rob because it is indeed a great loss. Had an interview with Ramon about 6 weeks ago, and perhaps the very last of this great sports hero worldwide, but above all in Thailand.
