On the Facebook page of the Belgian embassy in Bangkok we read the following message:

“Welcome Sinterklaas

The Belgian residence received an unexpectedly high visitor last Sunday! Sinterklaas came to visit the good children together with his faithful followers. Straight out of quarantine, he immediately adapted to Thai culture and arrived in a Tuk-Tuk. The children present also shared their happiness with others and donated their old toys to the Gift of Happiness Foundation.

Many thanks to Belgian Club of Thailand for organizing Sinterklaas' visit as well as to Lutosa, Devos & Lemmens and Ampersand Gelato for their support.

And of course we also thank Sinterklaas himself for coming by and spoiling young and old.

See you next year!"

Sinterklaas and Zwarte Piet, that's how tradition should be

Why is Zwarte Piet BLACK? For one reason: then the little ones do not recognize uncle Jules or neighbor Fatima. Held that position for 11 years: wonderful, my own children did not recognize me.
Already 35 years ago: neighbor boy René had his face painted as Zwarte Piet, but ... not so well. After a few minutes my youngest son (6) remarked: Zwarte Piet, you look like René!. I have never seen two boys, Rene of 10 and my eldest son of 9 twist, turn and turn so much to maintain the faith of the youngest at least that year.

Harry you are quite right, but ZWARTE PETE is black because this white man went down the chimney to put the packages in front of the stove. Nowadays you no longer have a chimney where coal is burned. Now we only have rioters in the Netherlands who call this discrimination and try to destroy the fun of the children. And the government is cooperating with this so black pete is no longer allowed. I have never seen this as a kind of discrimination, I was taught this by the anti-social members of the government.

The discussion about Zwarte Piet shows that it is mainly a party for adults.
The color of Piet will not interest children very much.
